WC Shotz

lol @ JimDep. Taunting us with the Waffle House again eh?

:hehe:

@WCL MSTS shot. That's a very pretty shot there. I think once TS2009 gets it's full potential going if Auran can get to it, and make their engine a bit more light friendly, it will give MSTS a run for it's money. Especially now that MSTS2 is on indefinite hold, it's a great opportunity for Auran to pull ahead of the pack for rail sims.

:)

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...WC Shotz.

I was just thinking we should all meet at the Waffle house.

That's a nice pic from MSTS, WCL. Did they actually have a Wisconsin
route?

And.... MSTS still sucks!

MSTS is still by far the best....Its got great cabs, great sounds, its got the nice doppler effect....Adam is just mad cause he don't have all the great stuff....He dont like how the "HORNS" look cause of the "not so round corners"....A lot of us like MSTS so if ya dont like it...DONT bring it here....Please keep the dislikes to yourself...."COUGH COUGH" :n:

And Jim.....There is only a WSOR route for Wisconsin and that goes from Reedsburg to Lodi

Speaking of which, I had a friend who doesn't use MSTS anymore and I am asking him if I can install it. I am sure it is fun, simply look at those gorgeous Darth Vaders! On the subject of that I am designing a new set in Trainz.

Intermodal service regional style

Today we chase WC Train T218 from Black Creek to Neenah.....This train runs from Green Bay all the way to Schiller Park....

Its dusk in Black Creek and Miller Time at the Cooper Kettle, one of dozens of neon-lit taverns that dot small town Wisconsin serving up fish frys and cold beer, two Friday evening staples in the Badger State. At 5:30 our train today on the point has 2 WC ex-SOO GP30's 703 and 700 with 21 loads and 45 empties with 4111 feet of train and totaling a 2384 tons....Here we catch the train as it comes of the GB&W tracks and onto the WC Shawano Sub

Entering track warrant No. 29 T218 proceeds southward over WC's Shawano Sub...At 6:05 we're rolling at restricted speed through the west side of Appleton, the deep-throated roar of the GP30's echo off industrial buildings, many with freight cars on their sidings...

At 6:30 T218 is at Milepost 361 on the Shawano Sub, also Mile Post 188 on the Neenah Sub as the former Chicago-Twin Cities main line now gains another train...From here south, WC trains enjoy welded rail and CTC operation...From Appleton to Fond du Lac, the Fox Valley main line parallels on the left...In Neenah, 218 makes the first of only five brief regular stops to work..

As T218 continues south we will head back north up to Green Bay and call it a night

At 7:50, the lights of North Fond du Lac and Shops Yard appear, foretelling 218's usual crew and engine change. The Green Bay crew with 703/700 cut away from the flats, and heads to another track and start its wait to return north as tonights T019...Meanwhile, the North Fond du Lac crew, with a big SD45 that isn't permitted up north on the GB&W, is ready to move in and take over T218's consist....

With the train together and the air test completed, the engineer moves the reassembled 218 south out of the yard to the Scott Street crossing at the north end of Fond du Lac proper, where the conductor will board....The engineer requests "main line east" from the dispatcher in Stevens Point "coming right up sir" and SD45 6505, tonight with a smaller GP35 2053 behind it, begins towing its train through town at 8:46....

A few minutes later, 218 is south of the yard to meet train T047 out of Milwaukee; it has 132 cars behind three SD45's and 1 GP40 and a crew whose 12 hours is ready to expire

As the train motors through southeastern Wisconsin we say goodbye to T218 as it will continue on its way towards Schiller Park

2 WC trains I caught tonight while I was spending some time in Wausau for the day........

First out today was the local that runs at night over to the 3M plant, train Y0913, is seen here crossing the 1 of 2 bridges in downtown Wausau that cross over the Wisconsin River:

I then shot over to the yard quick to see if I can catch the train that runs north out of town....For some reason they have been running at night now...Dont know why...Hopefully they will go back to running days again...

As I turned onto Townline road, the lights were just coming on.....So the 2nd train I caught was the train that runs up to Prentice, train L011, seen here leaving the Wausau yard as it starts its journey north:

Then it was back to my grandparents house for the night......I should of paced this train out of town, but I had to make a quick run to the other side of town quick.....The line that goes north parallels 6th street the whole way out of town....Maybe next time I'll see if I can grab that.....

Till next time

WC Intermodal Service

How cool JJ, about 2 or 3 weeks ago I re-read the Oct 1990 article from Trains Magazine about the WC's Intermodal Service, Regional Style and here I see you've put pictures to that subject. Great work!! Thanks for sharing. The WC was quite the railroad.

Later,
DC

Nice shot there!

I like how the fog is just kind of hanging there in the distance. Very believable on those cooler evenings after a very hot summer day.

Uhm..ok, would I be too rude if I`d ask where did you get the first loco from the left in your last pic, WCL?

Today I was called for train TO11...The Wausau to Prentice local...Our train today has 3 WC GP40-2's (yes a lil over powered but one was going to be
set out in Bradley for the Rhinelander local) and 5 empties and 5 loads

Our train gets on the way and crosses over Townline Road and past the Kraft Cheese plant

Coming thru the old yard

Zipping past the good ol depot

Making the bend at the north end of Wausau

Now starting to notch it out the train passes the yard limit sign for the SB trains

Ducking under Bridge Street and passing the Woodchucks baseball diamond

Passing Gilbert Park where we see some folks having a nice cook out...A shave and a hair cut was done here

Running along side the Wisconsin River
