Warehouse Buildings with angled walls

Dave:

I agree. They have their uses as long as those uses are far in the background but up close and personal - yuk.

Mick:

The only way items could be moved as a unit it if they was made with a base unit. All the attachment points for the various components are placed on it. However - there are a lot of disadvantages to that.
1. Most trainzers are not content creators so where would they get the base unit?
2. This kit is suppose to be extremely versatile. By that I mean as you build your warehouse you can immediately change anything "on the fly" that doesn't fit, is in the wrong position, or you don't like. With the base unit method you must go into it and change the position of the attachment points, re-export it, possibly change the kuid for that, and so on. It negates the immediate changeability. To me the ability to change anything and everything as you build far outweighs the ability to move it as a unit.

Since you won't be able to (easily) move it - lay the track first, double check its position, build the warehouse to fit.

Everyone:
I'm not certain about the snap attach idea. I like it but the way splines are done has changed quite a bit. I don't think they snap attach the way they used to. Perhaps some kind soul (a spline aficionado) could run a few tests?

Guys:

We need to make some decisions here so we can get this show on the road and start making parts. I'm starting to think I'm trying to herd cats here, lol

Ben

Fantastic.

Have at it - the more the merrier - its everyone's parade, lol.

These are all splines I assume?

They also look like planes - dat right?

Dave Snow,

Thank you for your warehouse component splines. I have almost every angular building in my industrial park created. I took the liberty to clone your splines and change the coloring so it doesn't look like the same contractor erected all these building on the same day. With your permission, I'll upload them to the DLS.

I have one more building to be created. It is actually just a roof and columns. Can this be done with splines? It doesn't need the interior columns, so if the walls were just foundation, columns and roof edging, it might work with your existing roof splines.

Yeah - it sure it.

Ya know guys - when I first thought of the idea of a "warehouse kit" I based it on several authors making parts to a fixed set of standards but after seeing Dave's kit I think a far better way would be for any author who would like to make an individual kit of their own do so. That way we get far more variety so an entire industrial area doesn't look like the same contractor built each and every building plus folks should still be able to make an individual part to fit any kit if needed.

Just a thought.

Dave,

I'm glad you like out-of-the-ordinary. Here is another industry - Meyers Container - they make steel drums. Lots of steel drums. Store them in piles outside. Ship them by the car-loads. Here is a view of part of their storage yard:

Any chance you can make some piles of barrels? It looks like the only colors are red, blue, green, black & white. If you made several sizes of small piles, one could add as many as needed to make the larger piles.

Love the Owens-Corning open warehouse. It fit perfectly into place on my route.

Route still needs lots of work, but I'm having lots of fun getting it done. This approximately 1 square mile industrial park has 80 industrial spot for freight cars. It's going to be a real switching puzzle when done.

Thanks again for the cool out-of-the-ordinary stuff you do.
