I am running on a X64 12GB ram with dual Hexcore 2.226GHZ and a Nvidia Quadro FX1800 512 MB Card with the latest Nvidia Drivers.

when starting any scenarion in trains the trains runs horrible.

I set down the graphic options to minimum and still runs horrible.

I run other games on this machine without any problems.

any suggestions are welcome at this time.

So far i feel like i spend $53 for something that is not working :(

A couple of things to try

When the launcher window starts, go into Options and look at the Display Settings tab. If it's on DirectX, change it to OpenGL. If it's on OpenGL, change it to DirectX. Different video cards run better with one or the other.

Well if I had to make a overall determination it would have to be that your video card (even though that's pretty hot card for CAD) being that it's only 512 MB and only a 128 bit interface that could be why you're lacking in video performance.

I found over my years of using Trainz, that a 256 bit interface or higher is actually the best fit for Trainz. As for other games performing well, Trainz isn't and can't be compared to traditional first-person shooters or other video games. With most video games a scene designer is given a certain number of polygons for a particular scene and that's how they design it.

For Trainz the canvas is essentially blank, and it's up to the user to create it. This can lead to enormous performance problems considering that every Trainz route is created using assets built by hundreds of thousands of different creators each creating them differently. So with that in mind comparing it to other video games performance wise is really impossible.

Quadro's although excellent for rendering in Cad type programs, have poor performance in games compared to gaming cards of the same period. FX1800 gaming performance is round about the same as an Nvida FX 8400. It's not designed as a gaming card but for use in professional Cad systems, which have different requirements.

I appreciate all your replies about the video card and was hoping it would not be it since i can not change the card due to what i also do on the computer primarly. Bummer....

The weird thing is last night after posting it must have known i was complaining about it casue it run smooth like nothing else. This morning i go back to my saved session to complete the journey and its jumps on the tracks. Run for 3 seconds then stands still for 2 and then same all over again.

Why can't you replace the video card ? If it is a desktop PC, and not a MAC ?

Downloading GameBooster may help ... also turning off Windows Sidebar, Disconnecting your Eithernet cable first ... then turning off your antivirus, will improve framerates.

By the looks of his reply I would assume he does cad work primarily on that unit...

Nothing wrong with adding an additional card just for gaming, if there is an available slot then just switch the monitor over before booting up. To save wear and tear get a monitor switch and additional cable. I've switched cards while running the PC using that method in the past and not had any problems.

My brother did something better than this. He used the same monitor for both his games and and his 3d work by connecting the Analog port to one video card and the digital port on the monitor to another video card.

When he wanted to play games, he'd hit the switch on the monitor to change inputs from one mode to the other (I can't remember which one was which).
