Video Capture Software

Thanks, John. I'm already happy with Fraps' 30 second limit. As a former teacher, I completely understand the attention span issue - I have one myself - and I feel I accommodated that with the four videos I have already made. I feel that Fraps is fine the way it is.

My issue is that Windows Media Maker seems to be hell bent on making my videos, shot on Earth, appear that they were shot on Mars or perhaps Krypton (as illustrated in the screenshot in my previous post). I cannot figure out how to get that to change back. It seems that no setting I can find affects this. What is really odd is that when I click on the file name in the folder, the little preview image that I get has its proper, non-distorted colors.

Two other people on the "Interweb" have posted in their various and sundry forums this same issue with no more answer than "sell your computer and buy a new one".

From the CamStudio website (www.camstudio.org):

"Incorrect size: c:\documents and settings\me\local settings\temporary internet files\content.ie5\9yu9z2c1\camstudio20[1].exe. Actual size is 651280 bytes, but should be 1364995 bytes. Download the setup again."

Well, that was attempt #11 in the last 24 hours.

AAAAAAKKKKKKK!!!!

TrackAxPC looked very promising. Unfortunately it will not install because its install file is not a valid Win32 application. GROWL!

I tried downloading through Google Chrome instead of IE or Mozilla. This time I got a file that was much larger and installed properly.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the software to react the same way it does in the video tutorial.

Hi Adam,

Sorry I haven't responded but I'm not getting emails when this thread is updated. I was, but not recently.

I can't help with the colour problem and I really can't help with TrackaxPC because I've never tried it myself. As it's only an editor, you still have the problem of making the videos themselves.

I've had interstate visitors for the past fortnight and my head is spinning. Let me do a little more research and I'll get back to you.

Regards,

John

Hi Adam,

Most of the really good free editing stuff is for Linux. Some will run from a bootable CD if that interests you.

Here are two more Windows offerings. I know nothing about them but they do look promising:

ZS4
the new incarnation of Zwei-Stein Video Editor, is advanced video editing and compositing software with over 150 built-in video effects.
