My son recently got a new laptop with Windows Vista. He had been using Trainz06 on another desktop with Windows XP. When he loaded Trainz06 on his Vista laptop, the game would work, but not Content Manager. He bought a new Trainz06 program for Vista. He loaded it, and at first everything worked. However, now the game works, but not Content Manager. He gets this message when he tries to access Content Manager - "Unable to register Trainz URL registry key." Can someone please help us with this problem?:(

Don't know if this helps but it takes auran a few days for a new key to activate.
It may be a vista thing ,i don't run vista so can't help with that..

I always get the "Unable to reguster URL key," myself. I hit okay three times and then CMP starts working. As to why it's not working, I don't, though. My guess and suggestion is that, since you're running vista, go to the auran folder, right click it and go to the security tab. Set all permissions at maximum, or full control. If this still doesn't fix the problem, then I don't know what to do. Hope this helps. If not, sorry.

Hi Mary,

Take no notice of the request for a photo! You will get help here without having to publicise yourself.

I am a Vista user with TRS06 and dont have any problems with it at all. My game is patched with Service Pack one and both Content Manager and the game are set to run as administrator (Right click the game icon and content manager icon and in the compatibility tab of each tick 'run as administrator' and click apply.
Something else that I have done for a long time with content manager is to run it from a separate icon on the desktop rather then from within the game menu. To do this go to your drive where the game is installed, find the Auran folder, then the TRS2006 folder then finally into the bin folder. In here you will find an icon for content manager. Right click the icon and select 'send to' and from the submenu 'Desktop (create shortcut)'. This will put a CMP icon on your desktop which you can run without the game disc in the drive until you need to launch the game. It works fine for me most of the time with only the occasional hang-up

Good luck, Andy

Woody,

I thought the request for a pic was kind of odd! I'm glad you agreed.

Anyway, we would appreciate any help or info you can give us. We've tried everything mentioned and so far, no luck.

Same here, I was tempted to post in that thread before but, now im not so sure..... anyway......

I gave the site a search, and if you search a couple of key words, you get quite a few answered threads with simular problems... try:

"Vista"
"vista 2006" or trs2006, trs06 , trains 06
"vista cmp"

hope this helps...

good day,

Run Content Manager as an Admin and see if you still have a problem. Remember, Vista runs everything as a general user. Right click on the Trains icon and select Run as Administrator. It's most likely Vista blocking it from connecting it to the internet.

oo yes, i got a error the other day, in cmp, it said server was fulll, mmm
i looked at my router and the lights where off, them i looked at my cable modem and it was turn off, my wife was cleaning in my comupter room and
hit the stand by button,,,,,,

CMP never worked for me in 06. I bought and installed TC3. It is a more stable version than 06. CMP works in TC3 and you can import all the content from 06 into TC3. I hope my pennyworth helps

My CMP worked ok till my download total reached 4 gig from DLS then i had problems with it. I then had to learn how to use it correctly ,not to do everything all at once, give it time to rebuild it's database if it won't load. I now have TC3 , but still use TRS06 & its CMP with no problems, wouldn't be without it...

Hi marygfaile
I have been discussing this on the helpdesk with your son. Unfortunately it has been difficult to obtain information, which has made diagnosing the problem difficult.

As per the ticket:

Can you please supply a copy of the trainzdiag report. This is done by going to the TRS2006 install directory, then opening the 'bin' folder. In this folder will be a file called 'trainzdiag.exe'. Run this, then when it has finished it's tests click on 'save', and save the .txt file to your desktop. Then, when you go to reply to this ticket, use the upload attachment tools below the reply box to add the .txt file as an attachment.

I need to look at this file to see if your computer is actually able to run the software.

Now, the uploading it will be different. You will need to copy and paste it into the post on here.

Thank you
