Whistle Signs

FYI,

UP uses "X" whistle signs.

BNSF uses the "W" whistle sign.

Not sure what NS, CSX and others use.

Just FYI,

wooohhhhh there, now I live off a UP mainline in central California, and I know for a fact I have seen several W signs over here..... I know this is an ex WP mainline, but there are quite a few one in use for locations in which a crossing does not exsist but there is a need to sound the horn.......

cheers;)

Truly Fantastic shots & work posted:D , Thank you for keeping the UP thread alive while I've been busy.

( **This short story brought to you from UP's "Rock Valley sub" , my fictional route with prototypical aspirations based in Southern WI/Northern Ill 1998-2008 )

GP15's on the RVS (OR, Ode to #552)

Its 1998, the last of the big UP mergers have past, UP's RVS uses GP15's for yard work and running locals.

Here we see a trio of GP15's running a local just outside of Clinton WI, #552 is on the point followed by a couple of units that have yet to be patched...

#552 has served the CNW well for years, and continues to do the same for the UP...

By 2008 most all the patched/unpatched engines on the system have been repainted, including the RVS's GP15's...

Sadly #552 had been plagued with various problems for the last couple years, it was deemed not worth repainting and has been confined to yard duty only...

This is the last shot I got of #552, four months later she was scrapped. Farewell old friend, you served two class one roads well for 30 years...

FIN

( Not to worry folks, since my route is based from 1998-2008 #552 will live on forever;) )
