Just a question to anyone who knows-

Did the UP ever use FT class locos (around the 1950's) :confused:

The Union Pacific never bought FT's. When the FT's came out they didn't want 4 units and still having to double head with a steam locomotive. Instead the UP decided to wait until units like the the F-3 came out, so they could tie on as many units as they wanted to meet the train. The FT's just weren't flexible to meet the UP need's. Another factor was the 5400 HP of the FT A-B-B-A set was no candle to the Big Boy's 6297 hp at the time.

With that attitude towards locomotive needs, I'm surprised Union Pacific didn't jump at the EMD F2. Yet again, that locomotive was more of an emergency response unit for railroads in need of flexible power. Union Pacific probably wasn't in that much of a hurry.

Seen better days...
GP30 #731 still runs, but her days as a yard switcher are numbered...the MP15AC's do most of the yard work now.

A HUGE THANKS! , to cloakedghost for making this Awesome well used GP30:udrool: :clap: .

"SHHH"... (looks around) ... a reliable source says NEW switchers are coming to this yard in the very near future:D ,...but thats all i can say for now:p .

2 GP-30, a SW-9, 2 RS-3, and 2 GP-9 make there way to the west on a motive power transfer.
