Union Pacific Job Update

We don't pay into social security. There's railroad retirement. All railroaders pay into that. Union dues are paid until the probationary period is over and get marked up. As for medical, the rates were $308 but are lowering to $277 per month. With $3621 my take home pay would be $2500 if you substitute railroad retirement for social security. Then union dues and medical would still be roughly around $2000. That's just for training pay. Then you start off at 85% and by year five it's 100%.
I forgot about the Railroad Retirement. Good news on the medical that will help a lot. All said and done, the deductions are about the same as any industry. Being retired now, I don't have to worry about that stuff.

Glad things are going well for you @AdvancedApproach.

Following this thread, as I've been thinking about driving for my local light rail system. The only thing that's keeping me from going through with the application process with TriMET, is my erratic eyesight, and the fact I'm 62.
Worried they won't take me due to my age.

The roster of rolling stock includes 6 different LRV's that I would have to get operator ratings on.

You can see them in an organized table, with pictures, here >>> TriMET rolling stock

Rail system covers a 45 by 20 mile area, with 4 rail lines all meeting in Downtown PDX. I live in Forest Grove, at the far west, so my commute would be short, as I'd meet my assigned consist at the far west end of the Blue Line, or at the westside garage which about a half hour drive from my house, about halfway between Beaverton and Hillsboro.
