"Unable to load texture..."

Error: Texture 'Outhouse 1 normalsmap.texture' is missing or could not be loaded for mesh 'Outhouse_1.im'.
Error: Texture 'Outhouse 1 normalsmap.texture' is missing or could not be loaded for mesh 'Outhouse_1.im'.

Exactly the same errors that were showing in the unmodified version.

Retro.

Just one more thing. I just remembered that I ran the .IM file through PEV's PM2IM software "before" deleting the two files. It map have stripped any reference to those files in the mesh although PEV doesn't seem to think so. Worth a try anyway. All I can tell you is that Outhouse 1 is error free for me.

Tom,
Check the mesh with PEV's Mesh_Text_Viewer and I'll bet the TEX_BUMP entry is now gone. If you get a chance, lets know.

Was going to post this earlier, but I discovered that the forum was down when I clicked the "Preview Post" button. :p

I reinstalled the outhouse, ran the mesh through PM2IM, deleted the normal map image and .texture.txt file, and then committed the outhouse. I do not know why the outhouse is error-free for you after doing so, Tomurban, but CM is still showing the outhouse as faulty. :(

If it is worth mentioning, I ran the mesh through PM2IM version 2.01 with only the "Strip Textures" option checked.

I believe PEV when he says that modifying the mesh to correct the faulty material name fixes the problem, but not being very knowledgable about hex-editing I might not be able to fix it. (I tried, but it failed, maybe because it shifted the bytes that followed a little?).

Bob: I don't have Mesh_Text_Viewer, just Mesh Viewer. Where can I get. I did run it through PEV's Mesh Viewer and it showed a nice clean 360 degree rotational view of the outhouse.

Thanks, Tom

For what it's worth, here is a view of the asset file as edited.

I have had some success with this. Find an image file similar in appearance to what you need. Use copy and paste to bring it into the correct folder. Then rename it using the same name as the text file. I don't know why, but occasionally you come across an image file that will just not work.

Spot on Sir, black.tga springs immediately to mind, I have had to alter hundreds of these files which were originally just 1kb each in the folders, but, I found one that is 5kb and copy and pasted it into all the assets with the error message and it worked a treat.
Trial and error I think for most of these damned error messages.......:hehe:

Thanks Retro. I did not know that. I do have Asset-X and will give it a try.

PS- Got to take smaller screen shots. Using a 23" monitor has it's drawbacks.

I also have had trouble with black.tga However, it is easy to make a small black square (tga) with Irfranview and substitute it.

Thanks a bunch Tom! Your version is showing error-free in CM. Much appreciated. :)

Just curious: what version of PM2IM did you run the mesh through? Mine is version 2.01 (the latest version according to PEV's website). The references to the normal map are certainly gone in your mesh.

Retro.

Not really. The older version may remove TEX_BUMP entries but normals, when properly applied, add to the appearance of a graphic so shouldn't automatically be removed. Just my opinion.

That is true. At least in this case it was beneficial by fixing an otherwise hard-to-fix error, even if that meant sacrificing the normal map.

I may send (edit: just sent) Zorronov a PM notifying him of this error in his outhouse model.

I have noticed another faulty asset (the frame to Prowler901's RGS #20) that has the exact same problem as the outhouse. Ugh.

Hmmm...I don't know how the ending on the normal map material name changed from "m.tbumptex" to "m.onetex". But I'll fix it and upload a new one to USLW. Thanks for pointing this out.

Cheers,
Fred

P.S. I guess that version is going down the crapper...:hehe:
