I've started Building Exton's Underground network. It'll have a loop like several real subway networks do, particularly like London's Circle Line and Merseyrail's Wirral line. I've decided on using class 508s on the route.
Two Class 508s, brand new from MerseyRail and still in their original liveries meet each other in the underground tunnels at CBS (Central Bus Station) Junction, both operating on the Circle Line (Denoted by the 'C' on the Theatre Box).
I've made a little route map for the underground network so I have a plan of what I'm building with the underground:
The Ranch Line will leave the tunnels and run alongside the high speed line through the car terminal all the way to south plains, and the Metropolitan line is the only completely overground part of the network, as it is elevated similar to how the New York City Subway is. The map is incomplete, I still have to finish the Metropolitan Line, and the Central City line after Central Station needs to be planned.
Away from the Underground, the High-Speed Depot, less than a mile from Downtown Exton. Two of the modified ICE Units are present. The prototype - Given TOPS Classification as 398 001 sits at the platform alongside the shed, where another unit, numbered as 398 105 sits idle in the stabling shed. Rather Oddly, the prototype is the only unit that was given Class 398/0, and the remaining standard service units are all Class 398/1s. 398 001 was used when testing the high speed line to see what speeds it could take, by setting the line's speed record at ~500km/h (~310mph). The Service units are limited at 260mph until purpose built pantographs and bogies arrive for the service units. Also in shot are two "Taurus" Locomotives, still in their original OBB Liveries, however modified for the line. These were introduced for rescuing failed ICE units from the mainline, and an experimental highspeed freight programme, in an attempt to remove some of the freight load from the existing north-south mainlines. I'll mention this in more detail with later posts. In the distance you can see the start of the Underground lines, currently being built on the surface, for each section to be sunk when complete.
*Probably the least British looking shot on this thread, hopefully should look better when I've designed the High Speed livery, complete with regulation yellow fronts.
