He probably lives in the US. BTW just because you live in a different country doesn't change the facts that Subways are cramped, dirty and smelly. Trust me, I live in the US and have ridden on Subways.

How can a box be attractive?

We don't have box-shaped subways. Even if we did, subways are much more than a box. I feel that subways are not appreciated. :'(
