ugly trains

May The Lord smite thee down...
Only thing I don't like about the Deltics is the hornsounds. Sounds kinda weak for a locomotive that was both successful and liked by many people.

This is the (bo bo) BB 9004, a prototype for testing a new bogie suspension and installation. the speed record of that
locomotive is 331 km/h.

That one is the (Co co) CC 40100 series, used for the T.E.E. train on 60ies. of the "broken nose" family.
a quadricurrent locomotive, and a max speed of 200 km/h.

I don't know, I kind of like the old English Electric sets - they have a certain brutish, utilitarian charm to them (the clump of MU cables/sockets on the front and the tiny cab windows). The rebuild with the smaller headlight actually looks worse as the light board on the front just seems tacked on and out of place. But then I have terrible taste in design anyway.

I know what you mean. There are quite a lot of locos and multiple units that, while being very obviously ugly, have a certain 'car crash' appeal. I agree with your opinion of the DMs. Another example would be the NIR 80 Class. Almost look built to deal with bombs.
