ugly trains

:o Oh look.... another model with a heading EMD  Wow, thats very different.....

Sure you may think that but I even think that the American freighters are beaten by the UK machines. I mean we designed some of the best looking machines on the planet. I would for once like to see something American that does not look like the same as everything else in use. Do the designers have imagination or are they just lazy?

Now that is what I call some variety.

As for beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder. I have to say that your Class 08 and Deltics are pretty cool, just because of their utilitarian design, but really, I find that most of the UK stuff, look pretty lame. Personally, I prefer my locomotives to look more industrial, and to run well, rather look pretty. The UK stuff just looks like it is a pain to run due to the low visibility.

But that is just me. I am a switcher guy. Hell, my favorite running revenue locos right now are the R&N's SW8 pups. That and anything that doesn't have a stupid fathead. (MLW M420 being the exception.) I also love seeing mile long coal trains snaking through the mountains.

Really, it is just my personal preference. I love German stuff. I love New Zealand stuff(minus their crummy new Chinese locos). And I absolutely love USA stuff. It is just what appeals to me. I also don't like chain and bumper couplers. It just seems like a really poor way to run a railroad. How do you kick cars around?

Also, passenger stuff is pretty boring.

The Royal Blue. Streamlined, Fast, Good Looking - Hasn't broken parts off during operation... :hehe:

Anywho, Comparing an old Teakettle to a Semi-Modern Union Pacific Diesel Locomotive is pretty pointless too. Even though more than likely our 'Lumps' can outpull AND outrun any of your silly little squeakers at the same time. :o

SILLY LITTLE SQUEAKERS?!
TEAKETTLE?!
You need to go to the opticians.FAST.

i agree

Too Right. If he carrys on like that, he will be suggesting we should destroy The Rocket!(one of the oldest steam locos ever)

After this he will think it is time to scrap the following British icons, Avro lancaster bomber, Deltics, HST's,The Mallard, Minis and Big Ben :p

Wow.

Guys, this isn't a battle for who is better, Britain or America. For those of you cocky Brits out there, I may just point out that I heard that some of your precious locos are made side by side with SD70ACes in an EMD factory here in the US. :hehe:

Besides, that one post about the Flying Scotsman was posted about four years ago.

EDIT:
Correction, they're built in Ontario, Canada.

Still, Canada uses the same stuff as America!

Actually they were probably built in Canada.

Rob.

faster train than that thing

This an advance on my previous post
That lump of mangled scrap couldn't make it past 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 mph

"Verbs" are another important tool. They, when left out, also make understanding sentences difficult to understand.

Have you ever heard the phrase "I accidentally 93mb of .rar files"?

Let alone how much better that looks than a blue inverted bathtub with fenders.

That's a pretty darn big mistake (Even the 93mb of .rar).

Let alone how much better that looks than a blue inverted bathtub with fenders.

Did you really just go there?

BTW Andy:

I know, right? I stumbled across that site and just knew that you guys would get a kick out of it. :p

This thread has turned into a UK vs. USA train match.

I agree totaly and this should stop US have some ugly locos so does the UK the US have some beautifull locos so does the UK. If you love trains it don't matter where they come from, there is even a place in everyones heart for the ugly ducklings of the train world, at the end of the day they take cars and lorries off the roads helping us to environmently clean our acts up a bit which the world over is a great thing.

You can tell where a train comes from they are that representitive to a country Brits tried to hide anything mechanical to keep lines and curves currect where as the US chose to expose most mechanical equipment to make it easier for mechanics to gain access because the US locos traveled a greater distance between depots. Locos are designed due to environmental issues so in fact to slag off other countries locos is to slag off the way the world evolved.

People are even jumping down others throats for agreeing, it's definatly got out of hand once paranoia starts to creep in.

From now on lets try to keep a lid on it.

2p worth

:)

Andy

Lets continue this thread without kicking eachother in the teeth
