Two questions about TS2010

Hi, all!

Can anyone answer these two questions?

- There are two very annoying bugs in TS2009's Driver when you are in cab mode (1 - The maximum driving distance is divided by two, at least. 2 - Textures with alpha channels may be rendered incorrectly). Are they fixed?

- Does the compatibility mode still exist (Understandably, it will take quite some time before an acceptable number of objects designed for the new format, mainly those that were using alpha channel textures, is available on the DLS)?

Thanks,

Thierry

I'm uncertain what you're referring to here?

TS2009 renders textures with alpha channels correctly, however there are more restrictions on how these textures should be used than there were in older versions of Trainz. The problems you are seeing are a result of using content made for older versions of Trainz, and are not a program bug. To resolve this issue, you should use content made for TS2009.

Compatibility mode still exists, but is no longer active by default. Visual quality and performance will both suffer significantly in compatibility mode as compared to native mode as a number of new techniques are not usable with the old rendering style.

hope this helps,

Thanks for your answer, WindWalkr. I'll try to make myself clearer.

For point 1 (reduced viewing distance from inside the cab in Driver) please try this. Start route "Marias Pass Approach", session "Cut Bank Wheat Campaign". Bring the camera near the engine (a few yards away) but on the right side and looking left. You will see an expanse of sand on the left, and trees on the center and the right of the image. Hit "1" (climb into the cab - my apologies for such a tedious explanation, I just want to be quite clear about what I did - and look left). The most distant trees (which were not that far away, though) have disappeared! If you do it again, you should have time to see the trees disappear!

Point 2: I understand that new restrictions exist about the use of textures with alpha channels. Fine. No doubt these restrictions have been introduced after careful consideration, but I think that they are far from clear for everybody. Only one example: as of yesterday 11/20/2009, unless I am mistaken there was still not a single spline designed for TS2009 and depicting telephone lines, power lines, etc. all of which normally make heavy use of textures with alpha channels. Yet these items are quite commonplace in any environment except the Gobi desert! So: is there anywhere a document describing how textures with alpha channels should be designed and used for TS2009?

Thanks for your help :)

Thierry
