two monitors

This trhead concerns a question about the possibility two use 2 monitors in trainz.

I asked the moderator if it is possible to connect a second monitor to the PC.

The answer was that this is not possible at this moment. He asked me to open an thread to invest the need for this feature.
So my question is to everybody to give your opinion about this item.

I think of 2 options:

- cabview + map (other screen)
- cabview (left view + centre view + right view)

Feel free to answer positively and negatively.

 Hi JosKroese

I have asked for this Feature when i started beta testing the Trainz Classic's series, and was told it would not happen for awaile :'( .
I run up to 4 monitor's at a time so to me space is not a problem.
To be able to Place a mini map, itrainz chat window, even the Tools panel's on the right hand side off the main screen would be great:D .

I attempted to run a second monitor with an earlier version of the game (2006, TC or 2009, not sure which) without much success. It was too slow to work well and the only option was to have an extended view on the other monitor. You couldn't put a map on one and the cab on the other.

Now with later versions of the game it doesn't even try to use the other monitor and specificially warns you about it. It would be great to have independant monitors with conifurable information.

One of the limiting factors on performance is related to the number of pixels in the monitor so adding a second monitor isn't going to do much for your frame rates.

I need more reactions

Thanks a lot for your answers!

I hope that more people will react, for the moderator regards this thread as an indication of the interest of the Trainz-people.

So it is very important that you give your ideas, but also that you simple vote if you think that this feature is (or isn't) needed by us.

Your remarks will certainly be taken into account by our moderator Zec!

Please vote!

Greetings,
Jos

Now THIS is a feature I could really get into. 4 monitors would certainly be ideal (one forward view, two side views, and a map view) but any kind of multi-monitor support would be appreciated.

More monitors please!

Wherever it should have been posted I agree that multi monitor support would be a God's send.

There are several people I know who are trying to build their own free standing loco cabs who would find support of several viewing angles a must have. The ability to have the map on constant display as you're learning a new route would be very handy as well.

.....Hmm, you would need a graphics card powerful enough to handle the task of two or more monitors.....

Worked fine with my old 256mb card and two 19in monitors.

The point that the OP is making is the requirement to split out the "sub windows" in the game onto more than one screen, which would be a good idea.

Oh, you're right! I just hooked up 10 Monitors to an old 50MB card I had, and trainz worked fine!:Y:

While I'm not a hardware wizz by any means the Flight Simulator community has been doing this for years with graphics cards a lot less powerful than what is commonly available today. Those video walls that you see in shopping centres use computers of a lot lower spec than the average as well and seem to function just fine. And don't forget that many video cards can use SLI across up to three cards for a very modest sum. Even at that, just displaying the mini map can be done easily by using an old graphics card which I'm sure a lot of people have sitting around gathering dust.

Hi John in some ways i agree with you But it all come's down to how you have your'e comp set up,
Not to blow my own horn so to speak But have a look at this video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85kM_xZr3sM

I have had TS2010,TS2009 and TC3 all running on the same comp 1 install on each screen, And Yes doing it that way does affect the Frame rate on each install. :D

i suggested un/dockable window elements like Flight Simulator X but it never got added to the suggestion forum.

edit: oh, no wait, it was added recently. just looked to make sure.

how do you setup t 2 monitors

Hi Poul (Electro),

I watched your video and saw, that you have 2 monitors running Trainz.

Is this done by 1 PC?

I have about same hardware-configuration as you have (8 Gbyte memory, 64 bits Windows 7, great graphic card etc.).
How did you create this setup?

I think everybody is interested to know.
(I received a message of Trainz, that 2 monitors are impossible today).
So can you explain how to use 2 monitors on 1 PC?
(2 PC's would be no problem either; in Flight Simulator I use 2 PC's to run 4 monitors)

Greetings,
Jos

This is a very good idea.

I am note worried about frame rates, my PC has lots of extra horsepower.

It would be nice to be able to put the map on one window or a whole bunch of other things.

This has my recommendation. (Now if I had some weight to throw around with it...)

May I choose the assets and how many of them to display? Or perhaps we could run a small competition on who can build a layout that will bring your machine to its knees?
