TUME’s Simulation of “The Milwaukee Road”

Hallo!

@ sawyer811:

You are not exactly right. The Milwaukee Road operated extra Dining Cars and Tab Lounge Cars at the Olympian Hiawatha as well as at the Twin City Hiawatha and the Midwest Hiawatha. So there have been separate dining cars.

Seen some photos of Milwaukee Road’s Dining Cars below:

@ cool450:

You did not miss anything there is no Dining Car jet.

Back at the time as I created my Milwaukee Road Hiawatha Cars, I also created a Tab Lounge Car. The Dining Car was planed but I did not start to work at it. At first the cars used to be very primitive. The windows have not been created to get its own mesh. Everything used to be included into the texture. The windows just have been indicated as black areas at the texture.Such a way to create passenger cars used to be very common during the first years of trains as it was essentially necessary to save on polygons and texture sizes. Later I redesigned my Hiawatha Cars and created the windows and its frames by using extra mesh and therefore the walls of the cars have been changed to get hollows in it – like usual now. This increased the number of polygons very much, but opened the possibility to get transparent windows and an interior.
Unfortunately I never updated my Tab Lounge Car that way.

I know the whole set of cars needs to be redesigned again to bring it up to TS12’s standards including normal mapping for a better appearance as well as the introduction of animated doors for a more realistic operation.
But at the moment I am focused onto the Milwaukee Road Othello – Kittitas route and the redesign of all of its dependencies for a TS12 upgrade including full season change.

Therefore I will not be able to redesign any of the Hiawatha Cars during this year. Also I will not create the Dining Car.
But just to provide something for the time being, I uploaded my Tab Lounge Car in the state as it is now. That means no transparent windows and no interior and several missing details. Just take it as a BETA VERSION. May this helps a bit – just until I can take care of my rolling stock creations.

The upload has been done, now the asset waits to be pre-processed. After that it has to pass the other upload steps. I guess it will be available on DLS at the beginning of the next week.

Sorry to make it look like I posted again right away but it has been a couple days since my last post. My question is, when you have finished all of your Milwaukee Road routes, are you going to release them all as one big route or will I just merge them with Avery-Drexel as they are released?

Hallo,

the Milwaukee Road's transcontinental mainline went from Chicago via St. Paul / Mineapolis and stretched further to Miles City and Halrowton, Montana. At Harlowton the mainline used to be electrified all the way via Three Forks, Butte, Missoula, St. Regis, Drexel to Avery, Idaho. This is a distance of 705 kilometers! I just simulatet the section between Drexel and Avery - a distance of about 75 kilometres. I needed three years to get it done. From Avery the mainline continued westward via St. Maries, Plummer, Tekoa, Lind, Roxboro, Warden to Othello. This section stretches over a distance of more than 130 kilometres, may be more than 150 kilometres and it was not electrified. From Othello, Wa the mainline went via Beverly and Kittitas to Ellensburg and from Ellensburg further via Cle Elum, Hyak, Cedar Falls, Marble Valley, Renton to Tacoma at the Pacific Coast - a distance of about 300 kilometres. The route I am working on now just simulates the section between Othello and Kittitas - a distance of about 70 kilometres.
So you can see that you can not just put the Avery - Drexel route onto the Othello Kittitas route. After I have done the Othello - Kittitas route I just would need to create the section between Avery and Othello. One day I will have done this also but I think for the time being it will be the best to release the Othello - Kittitas route first and both routes can be used indipendently from each other until the Avery - Othello section has been done - in about three or four years considering I needed three years to do the Avery - Drexel route!!!!

So the routes will be released as single routes as soon I will get it ready. But if I got all of it, I will put them together into one "masterpice" in order to release this as well. :)

But you may can imagine that this will unfortunetely not be possible in the near future. :'(

I hope this description helps you to have an overview of the work which has to be done.
But its an interesting thing that the construction crews needed three years to built the more than 3000 kliometres of mainline from the Missouri River to the Pacific Coast and I need so many years just for the simulation.

Milwaukee Road Content

Sorry if i posted this again but what Milwaukee Road Locomotive do you plan on Releasing Next?

Substitution of content

Hallo,

slowly the work at Smirna comes to a state about the capability of the route to provide full season change which can be shown to somebody.
Unfortunately there is a lot of DLS or built-in-content which does not include season change and which therefore will have to be replaced. In fact, I will have to redo everything. My own creations, which has partly been done as well as the DLS content. This is exactly what I was doing during the last days – creating new objects similar to the built-in and DLS objects to be replaced.

At the left hand side of the screens you can see my substitute for the “Hanger” once created by Raymond Parrot. I have seen this item in many layouts represented by many screens in the forum. I created the mesh to meet the same dimensions as Raymond Parrot’s Hanger, but I introduced new bump mapped texture form y seasonal version. I personally liked the “Hanger” very much as it used to fit into many scenes mostly as some kind of shed.

The building in the middle is my redesign of the “Building Yard Office” provided as built-in from the first version of trainz until today. Auran included the asset and its source files into the Content Art CD in 2004 so I could take the mesh from there. Although the original building uses to be a grey brick house, I created my seasonal version as a wood building. This for now meets the requirements of my route better, but I also will go for some brick versions later on.

The building at the right hand side is one of my set of residential houses I created for this project.

The last screen contains some examples of my content substitution projects as part of the Milwaukee Road project. I hope to be able to provide everything meeting the latest standards.

After I have made the screens out of my route I realized that the shed in the middle looks a bit „nacked“ in the winter view. Therefore I added some icicles onto the roof, which can be seen in the last picture. This only contains screens taken by using the Mesh Viewer – therefore the texture does not look as good as in Trainz.

Oh I understand that the Milwaukee Road Project is nowhere near finished, I just was curious whether youv were going to either consolidate each section of the route into one big mainline or release them one by one as you finish them.
Best Regards

Tab-Lounge-Car on DLS and Screens from Othello – Kittitas Route

Hallo,

for all who are interested in, my Tab-Lounge-Car is now on DLS. As described it is a beta version which will have to be updated to meet the latest standards.
But as I don’t have time to do this at the moment, please take this one until I updated the whole Hiawatha car set.

See also some state of my latest work about getting full season change onto my Milwaukee Road Othello – Kittitas Route.
The 3d-grass is clutter mesh and comes along with the ground texture.
This particular clutter mesh still has to be changed to get season change working on it as well.
Also there are some scenery objects which does not support season change and which therefore will have to be replaced as soon as I created similar looking new assets.
Note – still all splines does not support season change so I still have to take care off it as well.

Hallo,

the N3V did NOT make a mistake – I just gave you the wrong link which would take you to a place where you don’t have permissions indeed. So sorry about that!!

Please use the right link which guides you to the DLS.

https://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS_viewasset.php?AssetID=204662

Also you can search DLS by using my kuid number – 82412 – like you can see in my banner as well. If you put this number into the search menu you need to tick the box “KUID” just below the search input field. You will get every content I ever released.

Or you use the kuid number of the Tab-Lounge-Car (82412:3010106:1) which is outlined in my last thread. If you put this number into the search input field you will get the Tab-Lounge-Car only.
I am sure you will be able to find the Tab-Lounge-Car using this information.

:)

Have fun playing with it.

Playing Trainz10 Routes in Trainz 12

I have succeeded in getting the Trainz 2006 "Sandpatch Christmas" working OK in my Trainz 12. Is there anyway to get Tumes Milwaukee Road that I understand comes with Trainz 10 (that I dont own) to work with my Trainz 12 while I await the Trainz12 version. Just finished watching the CVP DVD "Montana - The last days of the electrics". Definitely a Must Buy for MR or Little Jo fans BTW. Can I get a "Little Jo" anywhere as a title search in the DLS comes up with nothing.:'(
