TUME’s Simulation of “The Milwaukee Road”

my one question is, can you create a track that includes the cut just like a fill? -inprr

I hope I understud right. If you mean the rock wall could be attacked aonto the track in gmax so the track spline just contains it. Well this is possible but it will be hard to do for several resaons:

First: A pice of track is about 4 Metres long and will be repeated. Therefore the wall would be repeated very close as well - far to close and such a repitation would look terrible for a rock cliff or any other ground surface imitation comming along with a spline object. Also it will not help to create a special track spline that provides a length of more than 20 Metres to prevent such repitation as such track only works on segments going strate through the land without curves or grade changes. That is not often the case.

Second: The rock cliff wall would end up always at the same hight above the track. But cuts in the real world are not like this.

That means a special track would have to be created for each cut, which is far to much efford from my point of view now.

But eventually its a good idea to include the needed extra rock cliff mesh planes into the track which have to be built into the route anyway. Its just that it would be hard to create lots of individual "cut-track". The cuts would have to be measured very carefully to get the needed dimensions of the creation and so on.

Thanks again for your idea! I will keep it in mind - may one day I will come to the conclusion that it will just be the best to go that way.

Lower Crab Creek

Hallo,

now another work state about the Milwaukee Road Othello – Kittitas route from between Smirna, Wa to the east and Beverly, Wa to the west as the route goes beside the Lower Crab Creek.
At first I have to say that a lot of content – especially ground texture – was missing in that particular area as the route came over from TRS2004 via TRS2006 up to TS2010 and eventually to TS12. Using a lot of TRS2004/2006/TS2010 builtin content now used to be a disadvantage as TS12 did not contain all this stuff as well. Fortunately it was possible to get the missing content out of this previous trainz versions. Eventually the “old” textures will have to be replaced within seasonal ground texture, but therefore the old texture has to be present at the route.

As you can see there are white stripes following the riverbed. This is because I did not load the river spline objects I built in years ago. I did not load this splines just to check the possibility to create the Lower Crab Creek by using ground texture only. Of course I would have to create a special river ground texture for this application. For now the area remains with the DLS texture I used under the splines and so it looks a bit muddy but not too bad. I think I will have to use a special river texture to be able to make a decision about the usage of river texture or splines. To keep up the performance, of course splines would not be helpful but in the other hand it all has to look nice besides going fast.

Hmmm......

I wonder how i could take so long to release some content? What i am aiming for is the Hiawatha Skytop Coaches. Why dont you release all the contnet and its Dependencies that are completed or will you do all floats in your Mind in one go?
And if you launched your web What is your Sites Name if you Completed uploading those (No word can describe it)Hiawatha Skytop Coaches.

Hallo Tume erste klasse wah

That is what i call a first class mountain view and texturing.
Absolute fit! What rock you used on that one, no not to copy just to understand that one still keeps up good look and feel on far distant draw!

Roy;)

Latest Screens

Hallo,

here some screens about the latest state of the redesign of my Milwaukee Road Othello - Kittitas route.

Now the Lower Crab Creek contains water. As the terrain is quite flat, it is not necessary to use river splines. I used water splines only at several short locations at the river as needed when the river drops down one meter at a lenght of about 50 meters. The other (flat) areas has been equipped with water made as single scenery objects - created by using large planes.

@ joosten

Please find a screen of the Smirna Bench attached. Initially I used a lot of textures from the "terre" series (available at DLS) back in TRS 2004 times. Still you can recognize two the the terre textures in this screen. The others has been replaces by simillar looking textures created by me. This textures now meets the latest standards including season change and provides a better "tilling behaviour". Also I use 2048x2048 pixle textures. This textures will be released within this route.

The first screens indicates an eastbound train led by Boxcab Unit E38 A+C+B crossing the Lower Crab Creek between Jerichow, Wa and Smirna, Wa. Other screens indicates a westbound train led by three SD40-2s passing Smirna, Wa. The last two screens indicates a GP9 going north and crossing the Lower Crab Creek at the Royal City Branch.

Some information about the real thing:

Althgough disconnected at Othello, the old Milwaukee Road tracks - later used by the "Royal Slope RR" - still remains disused all the way from the old Othello Station via Taunton (substation No. 21) up to Royal City, while the tracks at Smirna has long been gone.

How do you put the overhead Wires on the Track?

Hallo,

as I can see, you have TS2010, so you could have a look onto my Milwaukee Road Avery-Drexel Route in Surveyor.
There you will see, that I created the overhead equipment as scenery spline objects, just like the telegraph poles and the HV wires. To get the trolley wires into the correct distance above requires several steps which have to be considered.
At first the tracks have to be laid and the track spline points have to be adjusted in the correct height just like the track has to be run through the landscape. After that the ground has to be adjusted to the track by using the required tool. Unfortunately the ground does not jump onto the track as close as needed. Example: If your track has a height of 100 Meters, the ground below the track will be adjusted to a height of 99.8 Meters by using the “ground-to-track-adjustment-tool”. This looks terrible as a slot of 0.2 Metres will be visible and sometimes the camera looks just through it, if the view angle appears like this. Anyway – in my point of view, it is a question of quality to prevent the appearance of such a described gap between the ground and the track. The only way to do so is, to pull each single track spline point 0.2 Meters down after everything has been done with the track and the ground. In this case, each single track spline point means each single track spline point in the entire route!!!
Such a technology provides nice looking embankments without any gaps between the ground and the track and also you can put the scenery overhead splines right onto the embankments getting the right height distance of the trolley wire above the track automatically. Unfortunately you can not put the spline points of an scenery spline object onto a position where a track spline object has already been placed. Therefore you will have to click a little bit beside the track to put the overhead splines into the route. After that you will have to move each overhead spline point into the position like required. To get a nice looking overhead going above the track exactly you sometimes will have to move such a overhead spline point right into the same position like the spline point of the track – especially if you need to built in the overhead splines above a track curve.
In some cases, you just will have to control the height of the each overhead spline points by hand to fix the trolley in the exact height above the tracks. In cases where the overhead spline points have been arranged at the same positions like the spline points of the track, you just can get the height of the track spline points and after that you change over into the scenery building menu to set up the height for the trolley wire point by typing it in. If your track goes up or down a grade you will have to do so for each single spline point as needed.
From time to time you should check the result of your work by operating an electric loco along your tracks – just watch the pantograph running along the trolley wire very carefully.

Again something about the gap between the ground and the tracks which appears after using the “ground-to-track-adjustment-tool”:
Of course someone could create track which provides a mesh covering that 0.2 Meter gap, but in this case the track mesh would not fit the trainz standard dimensions suggested by Auran and this would cause some other problems – especially if someone needs to use different tracks.

I hope this was helpful to you. :)

WHAT?!

They have all been released in ts2010 except for a few things
WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great........i spent all Day searching for some Epic rolling stock that should fit in my TRS06,but what does the wise UP9000 Say?Well..They only work for a sim that i have to Buy......

Hi Tume,
I have downloaded your stunning Olympian Hiawatha and it is absolutely amazing. However, is there a diner for it? I wouldn't be suprised if I missed it but I want to ask you instead of tearing the DLS apart like a crazy man
Best Regards,
Colin O'Malley

I think the diner is technically in the bottom of the super dome (vista dome, or whatever you call it), hence, no seperate diner.

Now don't qoute me on that, but i know one of the coach builders (Budd or Pullman Standard) built their vista domes with diners in the bottom. I just don't remember which one it was or if the car is even built by that company.
