TS2010EE install problems

I have received a reply from the helpdesk and a new disc1 is on the way in January. Looks like I will have to wait until 2010 after all to get my edition up and running. At least they are helpful about it.

I wonder if the problem is related to the type of DVD disc.
I'm not sure of my facts here, but I understand that older DVD drives did not handle DVD+R discs very well, only DVD-R.
As I have a new DVD drive and can handle DVD+R my instal from DVD had no problems.

DVD-R and DVD+R are types of discs that can be written using a DVD recorder, I would doubt that Auran would be using them to distribute Trainz.

The master disc used by Auran in the mastering process may be DVD-R DL or something but I would think the production discs would probably be DVD-5 or DVD-9 discs. (Single layer vs dual layer. More likely the dual layer DVD-9 since the download version would be too big for a single layer disc.)

I have also received an email that a new "Disk 1" is on the way. In my case there is one file on Disk 1 that I can not even copy to my hard drive, even though that is not the way to install.

Once more people in the UK and US and other countries get there's we may see more people with a similar problem.

Many Thanks to Auran and the HelpDesk in helping us and doing it so quickly, it is much appreciated.

I've also had problems getting the TS2010 DVD to load on my PC (running Vista Home Premium). I couldn't get past the initial load, getting an error message, Copy Protection Error. I got straight on to the Helpdesk, submitted a ticket and had a response within the hour. While it wasn't stated as such, I suspect Auran has had some problems with faulty DVDs. The outcome is that Auran are sending me a replacement DVD set, although not 'til January 12. While the delay is a bit sad, the upside to this is that it will include SP1 for TS2010.

While I've heard lots of criticism of the Auran Helpdesk on this Forum, I personally couldn't be happier with their service, thanks to Auran Customer Support Rep, Zec Murphy. Thank you Zec.

Cheers

Well, having gotten my DVDs today I tried installing Trainz. I've found out that of my Desktop's drives my older Memorex DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive had issues with 7.ja (Disc 2) while my newer Lite-On DVD-RW drive had problems with 2.ja. (Disc 1) I got around the problem by using the Memorex to copy the files from disc 1 to my harddrive and the Lite-On to copy the file from disc 2, and ran the install from the harddrive. So if you have multiple drives, you could try copying files off the harddrive that way.

And it seems I was wrong about the DVD-R thing, Nero Info Tool says the discs are DVD-R discs. I may try burning new discs (for backup purposes) to see if they'll have the same issues.
