I have an error downloading and installing the patch for TS2009.
the error is as goes:
Failed to patch Builtin\1.ja, file contents do not match
Failed to apply the patch: 38411_to_40040
Patching aborted.

A quick fix would be appreciated greatly.

Might seem like a silly question, but have you checked to see that your current version is 38411 ? (If it is, this post won't help. If it is not 38411, then you will need to get the correct patch to 40040). I suggest you do a forum search as several of the community have had problems applying SP2...
Cheers, Mac...

Well, if it's the patch that was just released and you have the prevous patch, your done. The new patch that just came out was a bogus one that required you to uninstall your game or some nonsense to that affect. At this point, if you cannot use your TRS2009, it's virtually useless, unless you want to back up ALL your files from TRS, then uninstall it, and re-install it and apply the patch. Because of this update, I had to downgrade to 2006, which is a lowsy platform when it comes copeing with high Poly counts. Is the Error your getting something to this nature?

The patch get's about half way, then just stops, giving you the said error you stated?

@Mac-I think he has the 38411 Patch because if you read the error, it is recognizing the presence of said patch.

At this point, there's not much we can do to help you. You'll have to wait for a new patch, and pray that it fixes this problem.

Nate,

I'm currently looking for a solution to the problem by doing some patch works of my own. I'll get back to you if I find anything,

Ryan I did post something here, but apparently it went off into the Ethernet!

The patch process takes a very long time to go all the way up to the current version of TS2009. My install took over an hour plus. Instead of touching the PC, I went off and did something else while the patching took place.

This might explain why you have the entries shown above. These particular files have already been patched.

Afternoon JC

It's not that. It's that those messages pop up, then the Patch Aborts itself. Without my concent, or my awareness. It just stops. I had this same problem when I first tried this patch. Due to this, I can't use my TRS2009, at all.

Ryan,

I'll try my post again, which just went off into the Ethenet!

You may need to reinstall the application. Install all the updates, then import your local folder.

Backup your local folder. Move or copy it to another driver, or desktop.

Remove the application. Use the uninstaller. If it doesn't work, delete the Auran folder.

Run a system cleaner utility such as Advanced System Care from IOBIT Software (www.iobit.com), or CCleaner. This will remove the left over temporary files that are still there, and fix the errant Registry values still in your system.

Reinstall TS2009 and Ensure that the base program works ok. A quick drive of one of the built-in routes is a good test as well as going into Surveyor for a quick look around.

Install any previous patches and updates should you need to.

Install the current patch

Import your content into the program using Content Manager.

I've had a problem similar to this on another system. For some reason the antivirus upgrade didn't work properly. I ended up removing the application, reinstalling it then any patches to bring it up-to-date. Then I was able to put in the upgrade.

Just another thought.

John,

Actually what it is, is that there are 2 completely seperate threads that you and I have been commenting on:hehe: . I just noticed that myself. Please see the other thread for my response.

Hello all who've posted to this thread,

I've done the steps JCitron's suggested, and my patcher still stops. I've not clicked 'cancel' yet, just in case that was crucial not to do. Would anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Regards,
Dave

The progress bar does not move for a very long time until it's nearly finished. It looks like it has stopped but in most cases it hasn't, cancelling will screw up the patch and probably the existing install.
Can take upwards of an hour or longer, basically touch nothing and let it finish.
If you have a HD activity indicator if it flashing even very slowly then its probably still working or check using task manager for any disk and processor activity.

I leave PC's to patch Trainz overnight, never failed yet.

Thanks for the help- I'll try that. The bar hasn't moved for at least two hours, maybe three, but I'll see where it is tomorrow. I've turned my anti virus off and see if that'll do it. Thanks again.

Why your patch is not working indicates there are problems underlying in your system, or what you are doing. Are you running anything else while the patch is running such as email, MP3-players, movie players, etc.? When patching any program, it is recommended that all outside tasks be canceled. Let the program do its thing before resuming nornal activity.

How much disk space do you have on your hard drive? Have you defragged recently? The patch needs to decompress before it's installed into Trainz. If your hard drive is very full, the installer will crash just as any other program would when running out of space. The patch process can take a very long time because the data needs to be swapped around.

A good drive defrag will help too, if you haven't done that already. This does speed up drive access by keeping the sectors close together rather than scattered across a hard drive. This has nothing to do with CPU speed, or RAM speed. This is old-fashioned mechanical hard disk.

I hope these suggestions help.

No, I can't say I'm running anything but the internet on small occassion (for this very support only). I'll try defragging and see what happens. Thanks again, I appreciate the support very much. I need to get the game patched because my game is build 38411, and I've just purchased the Settle & Carlisle add-on which I'd really rather use with the game rather than as standalone but the add-on isn't compatible with this build, and therefore I have to update to a later one. It's frustrating, it's taken nearly three days of attempts but so far I've been patient with it- I really am looking forward to using all the rolling stock and scenery that comes with the S&C. Again, thanks, the community on this forum is by far the best that I've seen on any forum.

Dave

What operating system are you running?

If you are running Windows Vista/7, I have found that setting jpatchl-w32 and JAConverter to run as administrator can speed up the process and also prevent the 'stopped working' messages (also set trainzutil.exe to run as administrator).

If it is still not doing anything after 1-2 hours, something is going wrong as under normal circumstances, it takes 1 1/2 hours+ depending on how much content is installed.

Also, make sure there is no open for edit content.

All the programs mentioned are in the Bin folder.

Thanks Shane,
No I do not run vista, I run XP. I defragged my C drive but it's still not moved. Does this mean I should cancel the patchwork and start all over?
