TS12 wants to save "New Route"

Thanks. Your answer is correct but did not address my original question.

I certainly did. Read your Mar 27 question, it only discusses "save as." There is nothing about what indications surveyor gives, as is in the quote below, your more recent post, nor anything about what happens when you "save" (your question only encompassed "save as").

Sometimes I am creating or editing a session and click on Save and am prompted to save the route, which I do not want to do. If I encounter any future problems, I won't know if I accidentally introduced an error into the route. So I exit Surveyor and start working on my session again.

I am not getting this behavior. If I am editing and changing the session only, whether it be pre-existing or a new session on a pre-existing route, and select save, I never get prompted for a route name. I either get "Overwrite existing session" or "Create New session." You must have edited something on the route layer.

If you want to avoid introducing an error in the route, just lock all its layers.

Suppose I am working on Session 2 and click on Save. Any changes will be saved to Session 2. When I exit Surveyor, Session 2 is highlighted. Now I return to editing the session and place a few more consists and Save (to Session 2). Suddenly, I get an idea for a new session with a consist in a different location. So I place the new consist and Save As Session 3. Now I place one loco and Save. Does the loco get saved to Session 2 or Session 3? (In other words, after I have saved Session 3 and continue working, and then click on Save, do the additional changes get saved to Session 2 or Session 3. Is there any indication in Surveyor about the name of the route/session you are working on?)

I assume you mean only session layers have been edited (again you really should specify this in your questions), it is important to the outcome of your question. Also, please stop specifying the highlighting, that is only a cursory position for the route/session selector and not relevant to your question, as I have inferred or even explained in my two previous responses.

The "sudden idea" consist and loco get saved only in "Session 3" because they did not exist in "Session 2."

There are 4 saving option combinations for a "save as" with an affected session and 3 with a "save" [e.g. 1) overwrite, 2) create a new session using a new name, 3) create a new session using a the same name]. You haven't specified which you've used in your question, so I will just concentrate on your objective, because you've left the possible results too numerous for me to type.

The best thing to do for your objective is to have a base route and session combo. Placed the base session items on a locked layer(s). When you want have more sessions with different rolling stock locations, base them all on the base combination as a point of departure and and save as a new session. Keep your route and base session layers locked. The route will have no impact and will keep the same kuid, and be the parent of all your sessions.

Is there any indication in Surveyor about the name of the route/session you are working on?)

Yes, the route and session names you provide. That is why they are user input in surveyor in the Main Menu > Edit Route... and Edit Session... dialog windows.
