Trying to keep my cool...but No Product Key!

It doesn't matter where the fault occurred - it's the seller's responsibility to provide you with a complete, functional, product that you paid for. They might blame the manufacturer, and they might eventually claim compensation from the manufacturer, but they are the ones you paid the money to and they are the ones that are obliged to provide you with the product you paid for. Don't wait for the New Year - get onto the seller right now and demand an immediate replacement or refund.

I agree with BuilderBob, it might not be the sellers fault, but it is the sellers responsibility to sort something out for you as the customer .

I do feel the manufacturer left off the sticker, but I do agree the company who sold it to me needs to rectify this. I sent him another message lastnight stating that, and I havent heard back yet! The bottom line is a product key was left off, I paid fifty dollars, and we are sitting here with an unusable item. This was my sons main christmas gift. He wanted to spend the break familiarizing himself with the game. He is so anxious to play it; for months he has been reading all about it and watching youtube videos of people's virtual layouts, so I feel bad.

Trainz Simulator Mac is $14.99 on the Mac App Store. Maybe you could buy that and have it up in running. Then get your money back from the seller on Ebay.

That's how I got it for my Mac. It was quite painless and works as soon as you finish downloading it.

Hi jengossett,

My advice would be to send a message to ebay to say that your purchase is 'not as described' as you cannot use it as intended. ebay will be able to see the communication between you and the seller and look at the original posting of the item. I would think that they will come down on your side with this one as the game is un-usable in the condition in which it was sold to you, regardless of who is at fault for the missing product key. If you are able to get your money back you can buy the digital download version from N3V and there are plenty of people here on the forums that will guide you through the process if you need it. The purchase protection that ebay gives you can prove to be very powerful so you should make use of it.

Good luck, Andy

All excellent advice. Thank you. I will contact ebay to see if i can get a refund on monday.

No need to wait till Monday, and ill advised to "put it off". Claims must be submitted within a certain period of time...sooner is better.
-If you paid with PayPal, file a Claim thru them immediately.

As a seller on Ebay, I can tell you, the seller you bought from will NOT be able to provide you with a product key for the disks you currently have. You will need to return them, and hope the next set is not also missing a key.
-I would advise you to purchase directly from N3V, or the Apple App store, if you want to be able to use the program before Break is over. Return shipping and re-shipping will take several days to three weeks.

-Once your Claim is concluded, and you get your purchase price and original shipping refunded, you will still need to either pay for return shipping, or negotiate with the seller for a discount...since you can't keep something you get a refund for, and it's of no use anyway. Generally, PayPal will not force a seller to pay return shipping...sometimes a seller will send you (via email) a prepaid shipping label, but most times, it is up to the buyer to pay return postage, regardless of fault or defect. There are exceptions, such as if they sent you a completely wrong item (confused your order with someone elses), but a defective product is not "completely wrong", just "broke".

KingConrail76 is correct with the advice offered. You should do this without delay. Log into ebay and use the 'Customer Support' link at the top right hand side of the page. From this link go to 'Resolution centre' and then use the option 'I have purchased an item that does not match the seller's description'. Click the 'continue' button and follow the next steps.

Dont feel bad about doing this as it is your right as a consumer to have a usable product and the seller must take responsibility for this

Andy

I'm a long time buyer & seller on Ebay, what KingConrail76 states above is correct, but there is another
aspect of Ebay that UK buyers should be aware of ..............

There are American sellers on Ebay who state that what you are buying, is shipped from the
UK (the memory sticks I bought were from an address in Birmingham UK), but when they were
found to be faulty & a claim filed, I had to return them "Trackable" to an address in the USA, it cost
me more than the price I paid, to return them & get my refund.

To this day, I cannot work out why Ebay insist I return something to the USA, that was despatched to
me from Birmingham UK, this is nothing more than a con & you still have to be very wary. I will never
buy anything ever again, if there is the slightest hint of it being an American seller.

Always ask the seller what country the return address will be before making a bid or purchase.

Buying things on EBay is a gamble, there may be a game that already has been previously been pre-registered by someone else, voiding a second registration ... As Trainz is non-transferable and can only be registered by the same identical case sensitive E-Mail Address, Username, and Password. If an unreputable seller ships a disc that is scratched, or a digital download without a serial number, you bought a "pig in a poke" sight unseen, gambling with the hopes that a product is undamaged, and an authorized registerable item.

I buy only from the N3V Official Store http://www.simulatorcentral.com/, and from Jointed Rail

I downloaded the game from simulator central. I was emailed a serial number. Theres no explanation of what to do next. What do i do with the serial number?

You will need to enter it during installation and the first time you load the game. In addition to this, register it with N3V by clicking Planet Auran above, then Serial Number, then fill in the form.

Shane

You use the serial number in the link above the Forum where it says 'Register', and you use it when prompted when installing Trainz.

Kieran.

Small correction Kieran - the Register link above is for registering new Planet Auran accounts. The correct location is Planet Auran > Serial Number.

Shane

From what I've gathered, Mac software normally comes in either .dmg or .app files - if you've got either of these, it's probably a double-click on the file or the equivalent in Mac terms.

Shane

If you log in to your Simulator Central account and go to Order History, you should have some files in there to download and use to install TS:Mac. Though I've not done this with the Mac version so its downloading and installation might be different.

Edit: Thanks for the corrections Shane. I've not got Trainz at the moment so am going by pure memory.
Maybe I'll just shut up. :hehe:

Kieran.

I think I found it in My Downloads. Says it will take 10 yrs to download. Woah. I am a 36 year old mom who has played video games my whole life, but this digital downloadstuff is new to me. The first game we downloaded was SimCity Creator. That was super easy and explanatory. It would've been nice if the email also included instructions on what to do next…you know, for the novices out there. Im just hopeful we get through the download process and can actually play the game. The original seller did agree to a refund, so I can send it back tomorrow.

Have you found this page yet? http://www.trainzportal.com/trainzmac/TSmac_Manual.pdf This is the Mac version manual which includes some info on installing

Andy

Here's what I got from this...

Installation
Before installing, ensure that you have sufficient disk space(over 15GB is recommended) and that you have no otherprograms running. If you have the DVD version, insert the DVD. If using a digitaldownload, mount the disc image instead.Click on the “Read Me.rtf” to open additional information onthe installation process and N3V support details.Drag the icon on the left to the desired installation location.
Note: There is a shortcut to the Applications folder on the
right.

Trainz Launcher
Go to the location that you installed Trainz Mac (Applicationsby default) and double-click on the Trainz icon to start the
Trainz Launcher.

Mac Product Key

I too have trainz for Mac (from the app store). There is no product key for trainz for Mac. When you start Trainz, select settings and enter your Auran username and password. Then select content manager and choose Download Station from the drop down list. After setting your username and password you may have to shut down trainz and restart for the settings to take effect.

Content Manger with Download Station selected will display thousands of objects available for download. These can be filtered in various ways which helps, but it's not very user friendly.
This is the only way you can download content for the Mac.
