TRS2010

Don't get me wrong; The idea of this green thumbed approach of the Speedtree concept for TRS is virtually amazing and a worthy implementation that may have some promising effects (This is yet to be seen by the end-user upon release). I wish not to offend anyone as I personally do not wish to see such fertile minds of this growing forum community conditioned to start caring more for our enviroment and later being forced or governed to become members of earth-watch or green peace with a hug the tree - save the flea attitude which may result in a gradual decline of forum members here.

Vegetable rights and Peace! :hehe:

Well, as soon as I clicked on to the forums off my bookmarks I had no clue that 10 EE was being worked on either.

It depends on if I get a Windows 7 computer with a trillion gigs RAM. If I get that, great, and say hello to a bunch of palm trees, slash and longleaf pines and other elements since I will be getting this game too.

I must say that Chris is going to be a happy camper once it is known his three routes are being utilized in 10.

I hope 10 is an improvement to 09 as 09 was an improvement to 06. I am glad the Surveyor function "ain't going nowhere" but I would also like to be in the engineer's seat and take runby photos. Maybe we will see better driver components? :)

I agree with you as to the various versions of Trainz. In the version 10 the announcement was for new trees, what about other items like water affects, i.e. ocean waves, waterfalls, flowing rivers which I don't believe I've seen enhancements for these textures. The world is more than trees I believe.

Suddenly, we are being offered tr10 (or trx in Rome) out of the blue. What happened to the addon routes and the so-famous Treez? My guess is that Treex is not working out for Auran, hence the postponements. Without the Treez bait, the addons don't look so inviting (remember those skimpy TRC addon routes?). So what to do for cash-flow? Yay, let's package the next SP as trx (oops, 10, that's ten) and shell out on some Speedtree plastic veg, and watch the poor yo-yos queue up.

Works every time.

I want to thank Chris and the rest of the Brew Crew for their hard work in releasing the TRS2010 Engineering Edition. I look forward to the upcoming additions and underlying fixes that this product brings to TRS2009.

I like how this sounds (but I'm going to wait till things settle down a bit- who knows TS20011? (I wont hang out for TS2012 as there is a possibility that we wont be here)) Just a couple of questions:-

How compatible will this be with trs04? (I have tonnes of great content that creaters have taken hours of care and attention and would be a shame to never use it again.)

Can you use '10 content and '04 content on the same map? (some of Don Sarto's cottages would look beautifull with Ivy growing up them)

What computer specs are needed to run the game relatively well?

My specs are:-
Dual Core 2.8Ghz
GeForce 9400 512mb
1GB ram (will be upgrading to 4GB soon (I hope)

Cheers all

:)

Andy

BTW there are 7 continents in the world Europe, Asia, Australasia, North America, South America and Antartica. Central America isn't one of them.

I sort of agree other than I don't think TS2010:EE has been released as yet, just announced.

But I stop arguing for now. It is obviously fruitless. Maybe I stop by on the next release if Auran then still exists and if there is still no alternative. However, Railworks seems to have financially stabilized at least (while it still sucks), Zusi3 appears to be released in the foreseeable future, and there are some rumors around the previous development crew of MSTS2...
I suspect you want some-one to produce a professional level product, but without the professional level price. I'm not sure that is ever going to be possible and you may be forever disappointed.

And about that Massively Multi-player Online Roll Playing stuff? Forget it!

You have no idea of what your asking for...railroading is a skilled trade & I doubt many people will be willing to take orders to hold a siding if they think they could make it to the next in time...they will sit & wait & wait & wait, etc.

Using AI Drivers in this manner is out, because they may take the siding, then pass through the signals on the other end...

We would need a pro-active dispatching board interface like Train Dispatcher 3.5 or ACTS Monitor just to keep up with all the activity...

The whole object of multiplayer would be to have operating sessions just like you on a model railroad except you are capable to do it in real time on a copy of the railroad. Yes, dispatching would be used just like the real railroad. The sessions could be made as simple or as close to prototypical as you want. Also at the same time you are able to run trains with your friends that live anywhere in the world.

We at Trainzproroutes have been working on operating sessions since 04 and yes it works, but the fun of running your train and having to go into the siding to allow your friends train by just adds to the realism. Multiple operator interaction adds to the simulator. I love to be able to make nice looking routes like everyone else, but I want to get into operating sessions with friends and run trains together.

This is the purpose of multiplayer. Interaction on the same map with multple operators.

Looking forward to it

I'm looking forward to TR2010. Upgrades are always welcome if they come with improvements and from what I've read it will. I also welcome 2010 installing over 2009 rather than another stand alone product. Keep the improvements coming!

Trainz Simulator 2010, engineers edition. Am I the only one who didn't hear about this new installment of the game/new forum look? And is TRS2010 supposed to be like Trainz Driver, but with 09 standards?

I mean it's cool...but sometimes the design of this forum changes and I didn't know beforehand.:p

cam

What were you expecting? Someone to come round to your house and inform you of the new game and forum changes?

the video didn't lag at all on my system, and maybe it's just their internet connection.

my only thoughts on the trees in speed tree is that they looked kind of cartoony, but i don't use many landscape details in my switching routes and that's not a problem for me at all.

i think the trend is for more home layouts to be switching layouts -- moving away from crypto figure-eights, big property layouts... and, that just means a tree or two and lots of weeds on the sidings...

thank you for doing this: actually making the new version -- i don't mind paying for it, ever -- the price of trainz is always reasonable ( especially compared to 60 USD strategy games involving world-wars, games which aren't always successful and can't be as modded as trainz... )...

Morning all :)

Again, a bulk reply:

No, it's clearly not. TS2010 is Engineers Edition. It's a later than we originally planned for EE, but that doesn't make it "TSX". If you care about such things, the "X" in TSX represented 10 years of Trainz; Tony's post even covers that.

It's also true that product names rarely survive from conception to ship. This is at least the second, possibly the third Trainz product to initially bear the name of "Engineers Edition".

Unfortunately I can't give specifics on included content at this time.

Actually, I'd have to say that the most requested feature since TS2009 has been TS2009-quality trees. A few people have done a great job of this recently (TNM, Jankis, I'm looking at you guys) but it took a while, and most people have not.

We never worked on multiplayer for TS2006. I did write a little multiplayer proof-of-concept for Trainz CE but for various reasons (such as wanting to actually ship the game) we weren't too worried about it at the time.

Keep in mind that SpeedTree is focused on trees; there are other types of vegetation.

No, the add-on packs are not included in TS2010. They are compatible with TS2010 though.

They're not. But they're very pretty.

This information has not been release yet.

SpeedTree does not require an export tool. I'm not sure offhand whether you're allowed to use it in the way that you suggest, but that's a question for IDV and not us.

No faster computers will be free until around the release of TS2010, which would kind of defeat the purpose :) Everyone's pretty busy here. I agree that it would have been nicer if the video was captured on a dedicated video-capture machine, but we're happy with the quality of the video: it shows what we wanted you to see.

kind regards,

chris

This post: Out Of Control

Thanks Chris for taking the time to address some needed points of TS2010 as it helped me be better educated on a purchasing opportunity.

I can not help but agree that those who bought TS2009 feel cheated. Truthfully, Auran needs to do more for those who bought TS2009 than just honor the voucher when your marketing/sales department decided to change the name AND include Surveyor into TS2010. I will side with Auran in the fact that you did andvise TS2009:WBE exactly what they were getting (a platform only).

There are some great route builders and I consider myself one of them. To be honest, I and those I feel are ideal route builders were cheated (US Content Creators Referenced). Why just one creator elected as official route content? Why just one geographical area? Truthfully, the routes selected have little appeal to me.

My theory still stands on what TS2009 was, period especially when again your marketing/sales department decided to change the name AND include Surveyor.

The Multiplayer Function truthfully is the necessary and most profitable upgrade Auran can do to any new version. Among any version, this request Chris does in fact outwieght any other upgrade asked for by the Trainz Community. In fact, you published this advancement and now it is not coming to reality with TS2010:EE. The I-Portals were not really a good idea, but a slim start.

As for content, is it going to be quite ample? Just not a few buildings, a few geographical tree collection, etc? I truly hope you post screenshots of every new TS2010:EE upgraded content on the website. I really think many many many Trainz Enthusiasts will want to see them before making a decision on a purchase. Being truthfully and a realistic, that is the reason why people will buy TS2010:EE isn't it?

Second, upgrading "Paintshed" to TS2010 standards including normal mapping or bump mapping should be a vey high priority. Content creation for TS2009 and I suspect TS2010 is at a very slow rate compared to other previous versions, thus why this should be a high priority. Included in the available content should be more than just rolling stock. Why not add other content as templates such as buildings, ect? Something to think about IMHO.

The available content will be key in this successful marketing stradegy of TS2010. Lack of plentiful and I mean plentiful "native" mode content will have a severe impact on the success of TS2010.

With this TS2010:EE announcement, I question heavily the three very expensive pre-order TS2009 routes for purchase and the Treez Package. Why wasn't one of those routes elected as offical new content (have my opinions bet I digress in communicating them)? Why weren't those routes delayed and upgraded to TS2010 standards with the TS2010 content changes?

Enough said. Been a Trainz member for sometime and to be honest I doubt any of this will be heavily considerred and implemented by Auran.

An empty claim without any proof. Where are all the signals? Show me some. Of course, there are some fantastic signals out there with many configuration options, junction dependencies and such, but from a prototypical interlocking perspective, they are toy train level. Look at the trainzdev "signaling" forum. It is practically abandoned. Nobody there who understands the brilliancy of your signaling subsystem? You should come back down to earth and do a reality check.

Klaus

If you want an example of scripting specifically for a signal system I suggest you look at SCS 2006 Thakalane made a special script in there for the signal system in SCSbecause he dosn't use the built in permit system. If you want to create such a specific system I suggest you contact him for a starting point, suggest you use a little less agro in your approach to him though.

So there is some proof for ya

Cheers

I'm afraid that confusion in 09 will continue in 10.

1. in 09 builtin content don't work properly, e.g signals ( germans routes) and of course the sessions are unplayable. Installing 10 over 09 will not solve this problem
2. some rules in 09 don't work
3. there is no analfabetic order of assets. Auran didn't demand this from authors of new assets for 09, e.g. what is MTK BB1 BYLD4, if we will have B-MTK BB1 BYLD4 then we will know that this is building, or Jankvis... (great author of native trees) T-Jankvis..., T mean tree etc. In 09 it's the big chance to sort this because this moment there are not plenty assets for native mode.
4. it's time that Auran put in serveyor the seperate sort for native assets

I hope that 10EE will have a plenty new native assets.

The question is not to make signals blink like their prototypes or to make them to pretend prototypical behaviour. If you ever have concerned yourself with prototypical signal boxes, especially modern ones, you have to realize that a) it is a dumb idea to put logic into signals, as in the prototype they don't have any -- the logic is in the signal box instead and covers other aspects also b) Trainz does not provide any support for implementing the logic in the right way, and the latter is the whole point I am talking about.

Klaus

Come on, admit it, you just waited for me to buy 09 before you released 10, just to keep me behind the play yet again :p :p :hehe: :hehe:

I will side with Auran in the fact that you did andvise TS2009:WBE exactly what they were getting (a platform only).

To simply summarise the above, what Auran has done with TS2010EE is to keep it from us until now so that we will all continue to buy TS2009. Thereafter, they announce it and create all this hype about it so that people will now want to buy TS2010. This is effectively insulting the people (like me) who've bought TS2009WBE instead of waiting for TS2009EE. And why is this so? Because the same hype that now surrounds 10 was what made 09 so appealing. Had Auran announced that 10 will be what it is now, I doubt I - or anyone else - would have purchased 09.

So there you go Auran, another successful scam.

Hi Vern :-)
Long-term predictions regarding the Trainz product line have always been a bit haphazard as we tend to take user feedback into account during development.

REALLY?? That's a first. But if you really did I'd have at least made an effort to restrain the sarcasm.

I think you're missing the point of TS2010.
You're assuming that we trawled the DLS looking for existing routes; we didn't. We put a call out to content creators who were willing to work with us, and TS2010 is the result of that partnership.

Should you have stopped to think for a moment, by doing it the other way round not as many would be complaining about you repackaging old content with new trees. And so what if you trawled first and then asked permission from content creators? I'd expect they'd feel nothing but honored to have their routes included in a Trainz title.

Or would I have hit the nail on the head if I guessed you guys were just lazy or busy seeing how not even a decent computer for capturing VGA resolution video is available.
With this TS2010:EE announcement, I question heavily the three very expensive pre-order TS2009 routes for purchase and the Treez Package. Why wasn't one of those routes elected as offical new content (have my opinions bet I digress in communicating them)? Because by doing so, they'd be selling you four different products instead of one.

Enough said. Been a Trainz member for sometime and to be honest I doubt any of this will be heavily considerred and implemented by Auran.
