So you can still turn them off & on, if you so desire, if you install his patch?

Now why couldn't that certain company (what's left of it that is!) do that in the first place?

I think their answer was to include the Wind Speed Control slider which here anyway seems to virtually turn them off.
To be honest using the "switch" here made no difference to performance, which wasn't a problem for me anyway, it may be more effective with older video cards with less memory.

Possibly a slight tweak to that control to have zero speed would be the perfect answer.
 
Yes you can turn them on and off from Windows Explorer as required.

Yes a zero setting from N3V would solve the problem. I turned them off because even at the lowest setting they were still too active for the average weather we get here in England (although global warming does seem to be increasing the amount of wind we are getting - perhaps N3V are future proofing)
