TRS2010 Speedtrees Fix

Yeah, after wasting 2 1/2 years on that birdwatching simulator, it finally became apparent that the developers are perfectly happy using AI "traffic" as animated background scenery and have no intention of fixing it so you can do realistic US freight operations with it.

"Or you could just set the wind to zero in the environment settings."

Everybody keeps saying that, I have the prepatched build 42203 and I'm not getting that - wind slider all the way to the right or left, trees still shimmy shimmy cocoa bop at the same speed. Is that something about my version, or have you guys actually checked to see if that works? Are you saying when you slide the wind all the way to the left, the trees actually stop moving? If so, which build?

I seem to remember that in SP2 that if you imported a route that had Speedtreez that waved furiously, no matter if they obsoleted other legacy trees or were planted in an earlier TS2010, they continued to wave furiously.

If you planted SpeedTreez in SP2 but first reduced the wind strength then the trees remembered the setting and waved calmly.

I haven't done any recent trials.

However, what we really need is a wind strength setting that is adjustable in Driver, just like we can set the other weather conditions.

Incidentally, the wind doesn't blow constantly from one direction but does swirl and back in a sequence, not sure it is random but it is realistic.

I'm with you on this, IKB. I kind of like them waving as I speed by. It looks very much like I think it should, with the exception that that all seem to move the same way.

I don't mind the movement particularly when the train is stopped at a station when you can see the clouds moving quickly overhead and the trees moving. It's like what we see on a sunny breezy day when the clouds move quickly across the sky.

Each to their own guys, choice is just that.

What i don't appreciate are people who have being using the sim for 5 mins.

Rubbishing everything, out of hand.

IKB.

That might explain why the wind speed setting doesn't seem to work for me. I am working on routes build in SP 1. I am starting a new route in SP2 and I will see if the wind speed control works in this new route. Question, if this information is correct does that mean for routes built in SP2 using Speed Treez that the wind speed can be adjusted after the fact or does on have to choose the wind speed before placing the trees and then just live with the choice?

Such as who rubbishing what ?

Is modifying a train simulator to one's preferences rubbishing ?

If you continue to disagree with or question what IKB hath spoken, you will be added to his >Ignore< list....just like me.:D

Have fun

I'm not deaf, I'm just ignoring you

You think Mike has problems, I'm so obnoxious I'm on my OWN ignore list! :hehe:

Thanks Otto :)

I have SP2 applied and still with wind at 0 I get non realistic movement. So will be trying your mod for the speedtrees. As i like them, but the movement was putting me off from using them mostly.

Cheers

Paul,

I'm not sure. It's such a pain to have to keep jumping into Driver to see whether a gale is blowing or not. It's a while since I played with Speedtreez. Just remember most things in Surveyor are static even if they move in Driver. That applies to Speedtreez too. Although you may see some slight movement at max setting.

The difference between breeze and gale is not great since Auran altered it. I don't think the range is great enough. Altering wind strength after you plant your first Speedtreez seems to have little effect.

I wonder if for an imported route what the effect would be if you deleted the Speedtreez, reset your wind strength and then replanted with Speedtreez again. Would the Hurricane force wind impression die down to a Zephyr. Try on second notch from left. That seems a nice balmy wind speed.

To get easy and instant access to what is on my computer without having to clutter it's desktop with shortcut icons I use the WIN-XP FAVORITES like shown below.

Clicking on Favorites in My Computer or in the Windows Explorer the M - TRAINZ - SPEEDTREES link takes me to the folder where their Batch files are.

Closing down that window takes me back to the desktop.

Dean05, the wind speed setting in the Environment dialog won't go to zero, unfortunately.

I like Speedtrees generally, but since I use certain trees as shrubs, by burying all but the tops in the ground, they don't suit. The resulting "shrub" appears to pace about in a state of agitation.

The now obsolete Tree9, Tree26, Tree52 & 52M were very useful as shrubs, so I've resurrected them for my TS2010 layouts.

G'Day OTTODAD, thank you for this tree fix, I can now run TS10 reasonably on a machine where it was previously a slide show so great lob.:)

For those that are happy with the manic triffids, then fine, but the quote above proves how much of a drag on the CPU the tree movement can be on some peoples machines.

My main machine can run them fine, but I don't use them simply because I don't want any movement at all.
There are more important areas of Trainz to dedicate the CPU to.

I do like the look of the SpeedTrees though, and with Otto's patch, we get what Auran should have given us from the start (and still haven't); SpeedTrees with the option to completely switch off all animation.

Well done Otto.
I'm going to put the TNISpeedTree.dll back into the Trainz directory and give it a go.

Smiley.

I was searching for something else to do with TS2010, but what are Speedtrees? It's obvious about trees, but what type of trees are they?
