TRS2009 - Filters broken?

Not played Trainz since TRS2006 gave me nothing but trouble, but finally picked up a copy of TRS2009 on the cheap hoping it would be a better experience. It's much better generally, but still disappointing in the one area that put me off 06 - the DLS and CMP/CM2. Why oh why did they start messing with what worked fine the way it was done in TRS2004? :'( I would spend hours on the DLS website browsing content. Now I try my best to avoid getting any new content.

Anyway, my issue right now with it is that none of the filters seem to work correctly. If I choose "Location: Download Station" and "Region: Australia" for example it insists there are no results (it does it regardless of region). "Category: Scenery" gives me the exact same results as "Category: Splines" meaning I can't find any bog standard scenery without browsing through the entire list. The Era filters seem about as useless and I have to admit to being a bit puzzled as to why we have "Locomotives" and various train component categories. Is there a difference?

It wouldn't be such an issue if searching by name was easier, but with so many quality items listed in various languages, I end up missing out on some good stuff.

So, how can I fix these filters?

Have you updated to the latest patches? This seemed to have fixed the filters somewhat. Up until the last patch, even the Today filter wsn't working well.

I have as far as I know. I could only find the one SP on Just Trains' website (it's one of their copies). Content Manager says the build is 40040.

I just started up CMP, and set the search panel to Location - Download Station and another filter to Region - Australia and get 11 kuids. Region - UK gives 59 kuids. So that works. If you're not seeing these it may be that your assets.tdx is not complete. My CMP asset count is 143361 and my assets.tdx file size is 28072.

Nothing to stop you browsing the TRS04 DLS. When you click 'download all' on the basket it should start CMP and add the items to your download list.

How do I check that?

And it's good to see that I can still use the old fashioned DLS. Works much better overall. Don't have to wait ages for the thumbnails to load either. :D

EDIT:
Just noticed another possible issue - I don't think I'm getting "-" icons next to all the filters for removal. Is it meant to do that? :S

EDIT2: They re-appear when I expand the asset details box below.:hehe:

Right click window start and select explore. The assets.tdx file is in ..\Program Files\Auran\TS2009 folder.

Start CMP and select the Open for Edit tab. Your total asset count will be displayed in the lower right corner.

Size is 22,606 and CMP reports 117,287, so it seems it is missing some assets. Do I need to use one of those database repair options under file?

Thanks

The database repair function works on your local database only. The updated listings are downloaded in the background as you run CM2. It is not a massive download of everything but a series of small updates going from the current date backwards so you often see a gap if you look at the installation date field of items in the DLS listing. This process happens when you first start CM2 and downloads a small bit each time. Stopping CM2 and any other part of TS2009 and waiting a couple of minutes before re-starting it is one way to hurry the updates along but it does take a while before you are completely up to date.

Build 40040 would be the most recent public patch for a TS2009 without one of the add-ons installed. SP3 is on the way according to Auran.

So is it mostly a case of waiting and it will eventually start working properly?

All the filters work fine with local content (and in-game fortunately). It's only stuff on the DLS it doesn't work for - it instantly says there are no results (usually says "Please wait..." momentarily). Also, what about it placing the contents of "Splines" under "Scenery"? Is that something at Auran's end?

A new question - any way to speed up the thumbnail downloads, or are they now also limited to 5kbps without an FCT? I'm having to wait several minutes for one to download, and it's not often the one I'm waiting for! :hehe:

Thanks again :)

Yes, it is mostly a case of waiting for the list to be updated.

The issue with search filters and the DLS is that the categories on the DLS are not all readable by CM yet. Work is slowly under way to update the DLS to make it more compatible with CM.

The best of both worlds is to have CM open and use the web interface to find items you want. Then by clicking on the download helper link, that item will be queued in CM and downloaded and installed unless you have changed the default settings. This is what I do when I am just browsing. If I want to download a whole bunch of stuff from one user then I use CM to shift click on all of it rather than using the webpage.
