TRS2004 - Container Traffic

Does anybody know whether I can create a place to unload containers without using the Seaport assets?

I am trying to achieve a more effective use of pc resources and I do not need the ability to unload coal, wood chips etc. etc. ........ just containers.

I am also trying to create a 'busy dockland' scene and whereas the area within the Seaport could use a lot of additional assets to give it that "busy seaport" look..... additional assets in an area that is already 'heavy' is undesirable.

I am pretty sure that I can create a feasible 'dockland' with various other assets ........ but how to unload containers??????

Thx. Colin.

You could use one of the LARS tracks, available from Trainz Pro Routes. I'd suggest PROTO-LARS intermodal, since it allows more realistic loading and unloading of both containers and piggy-backs.

Whatever type you choose, it is simply a piece of track. There is no scenery attached. You can build as much or as little around it, whatever you choose. There are plenty of cranes, containers and other appropriate items on the DLS.

M.I.N.

I have just used the M.I.N. version and it works fine, more suitable for British as it only loads 1 container I believe.
The advantage I see is that if you want to send you route up to the DS at any time this object (asset) is on the DS to download while the other one is not.
Swings and roundabouts I suppose, just personal choice and free will.

Thx "guys" for your input ............ all very much appreciated. I am trying to stay within the DLS assets at this point in time, which then makes me ask the question:

What is M.I.N.? The only Min I know is Henry's wife (Goon Show)!

:hehe:

Thx. Colin.

MIN = Multiple Industry New

You will find it in the "Objects" flyout in Surveyor.

If you want information about configuring MIN and LARS, I've written a little illustrated tutorial, downloadable by a mouse click on this link:

http://rapidshare.com/files/97388922/PortOgden_1_Documentation.zip

In the zip file are three .pdf documents:
Maps of the Port Ogden & Northern route.
Driving in Cab Mode.
Configuring LARS, ProtoLARS and MIN.

Tell us if the last one helps.

Hi Phil - Are you sure you are talking TRS2004 as I do not see it Surveyor (Objects).

Thx. Colin.

It is a TRS2006 object. There are some MINs on the DLS, originally in Hungarian, but now translated, but I am not sure if they are compatible with TRS2004.

Hi Everybody - Trainz Forum once again comes through with some thought provoking ideas, all of which are appreciated. As the layout in question is 99% ready for uploading to DLS, my thinking at the present is to leave the Seaport in there. As soon as the Auran folk decide to send me my TC3, the plan is to adapt the layout as necessary and then revisit the Seaport issue with the additional scope of assets that presumably the TC versions have available to them.

Once again, all ideas appreciated. Trainz users just have to be the best when it comes to ideas and assistance!

Hi Driver_Col,

You can also use the Lars BI2 tracks, there are quite a number of them for different products, that's Basic Industry 2. BI2 container 30671 27222 or BI2 General 30671 27229 will both handle 20ft and 40ft containers and work in 2004.

Cheers,

The MIN is in TRS2004. Scan down the list to "Multiple Industry New".

Bill --

BI2 Container. True. But it is limited to a few container types.

"LARS IndustRail" will load and unload a broader range of containers, including 20ft, 40ft, 43ft, 48ft, 53ft and tank containers:

When correctly configured, the MIN will do the same, and then some.

Thx Bill ......... I will check these out. I am intrigued by the file size of those containers in "27222" ......... 7 and 10Mb! This could end up sending me in the opposite direction to where I am trying to go!

Hi Phil: When I go into Surveyor, Objects (selecting ALL), the closest I get in alphabetical sequence is MudstoneRocks followed by Naldham-House. i.e. no Mul........... This is TRs2004 2.4 (Build 2365).

Any chance it is called something else and you have changed the description?

I vaguely recollect (could be wrong) that Multiple Industry New was introduced in one of the service packs for TRS2004 but as you've got SP4 (Build 2365) it should be there. It's in the Objects tab, with the left-hand round button (Objects Mode) selected, and make sure the filters are set to "All". You should see several Multiple Industry assets listed there.

Nope! Even checked TrainzObjectz just in case there was a problem stopping it from showing ........... but nope......... nothing "Multiple" at all!

Colin.

That's very strange.

T.O. should list them with its "Industry" option ticked and its "Built-In Objects" tab selected near the top of the screen.

I think there's a way to disable selected built-in assets in T.O. but I've never explored the details. That hasn't been done has it?

Otherwise, I can only think that a ja file has been deleted or corrupted, or you had a bad service pack install, and in either case a complete reinstallation would be the only solution. Unless someone can suggest a less painful explanation and solution, of course.

Hi Bill: BI2 Container 30671:27222 looks very promising. Thx for the 'lead'.

Hi Colin,

I think you will find that the large file size includes the pack of products that each track will handle.

Phil,

Yes I realise the variety of containers is limited but I don't see it as a problem.

Bill

Container Traffic

Many thanks Bill for your info. It is looking really promising and tested out great. The layout in question (British Railways 1950's & 1960's) is a partnership effort with Harry (Failem) Spurr. He did all the trackwork, signalling etc., and I landscaped around it. We are both really impressed with our efforts and look forward to loading it to DLS probably within a week.

To everybody else who responded.......... many thanks also. If your ideas were not the solution this time, the information was certainly useful and will be considered in future layouts.

Now: Does anybody who remembers British Railways Road-Railers, Condor etc., know of any rolling stock that is interactive with Container industries and is a pretty close representation of that era. I can accept 20' containers as representative but have not found a suitable truck/freight car to carry it/them.

Ideas???? Thx. Colin.
