TRS12

TRAINZ401183

Trainz Extraordinaire
So auran just announced the 10th anniversey of trainz... i dont want the entire 150 box just TRS12. any one know when its to come out???

Hi,

Yes, now i know that it's called Trainz 2012, it comes in a beautyful metal box, contains a 245 pages manual that i will never read, a poster that i will give away to some kid, a chance to win a Golden Ticket, (i'm not that lucky) and some more gadgets... and all this for the stunning price of.... $149'99

And know, what i don't know:
1.-Is it the same old game engine?
2.-What are the minimum and recommended specs?
3.-Are there fixes to the AI and signalling and sound?

Is this just the addition of some updated and/or new speedtrees, the ability to watch your route while walking on the moon, and the addition of multiplayer?

From the announcement: "...and access hundreds of thousands of user-create assets from the Trainz Download Station."
How's that? It says backwards compatible with trainz 2010. According to the DS, TS2009 and 2010 are sharing 1748 assets. Hundreds of thousands assets to be updated to comply with TS2012?

I must be crazy to pre-order and spend 150 bucks on something with that lack of information, just for the manual and the box. Sure the manual will also be in pdf or any similar format in the DVD. If at least they gave a T-shirt away, i would think about it :p

Now seriously. I'm having a lot of fun in TS2010 creating my route and my own content. I'm sure 2012 will be a step forward, not the way most of us expect, but still an improvement on 2010, and if it's backwards compatible with 2010, that's fine, i can merge my route and all the content in 2012.
In my opinion, Trainz is improving with each version, being 2010 the best at this moment, and 2012 i'm sure will even be better.
Who knows, maybe in the next years we finally get a big surprise : TOTAL TRAINZ!
In the meanwhile, i'll wait for the downloadable version, wich i'll buy as soon as it comes out.

Cheers,

Manuel

Not all assets require updating to work error-free with 2010. There are many older assets on the DLS that work just fine and should presumably work in 2012 as well, despite not being built to the new standards.

I'm not sure if the total would add up to "hundreds of thousands", but there are far more error-free items than the 1748 currently built to 2010 standards.

It looks like complete rubbish. The Amtrak Toasters do not have Europe style buffers on them! :n::n: I refuse to buy this pile of trash.

No, it's called Trainz 12, not 2012, just 12.

According to the publicity it’s actually called Trainz Simulator 12.

Does anyone else think that the numerics look a bit odd?

At first I thought it meant the target age range rather than the year.

It certainly isn’t the price!

TS2012?

When Trainz Multiplayer (Beta) first came out they stated that it would have no compatibility mode and would not support anything below Trainz 2.7 (Trainz Classics 2).

So MY OPINION (NOT official) is that TS2012 (Trainz 12) will also ONLY support Trainz 2.7 and up. It WILL NOT support the bulk of items for UTC,2004 and 2006.

Forget it!

FORGET IT! - ATM due to various reasons.

While TRS2004 lacks some of the later versions, it seems to be the most stable. Traffic on XYZ demo works in TRS2004, the exact same layout copied to TS2010, where is traffic?

And we know what's going to happen, especially when it is only backwards compatible (oh forget the spelling) to TS2010, yet both TS2009/2010 share the same, if the person saying that is correct. Their will be error after error that will be just "looked" over.

We don't care what the packaging looks like, or is, IT IS the product that matters. The product should work 100% of the time, not 90, 80, or 60%, etc of the time.

Really? If the multiplayer TS2010 and later versions of Trainz will reject content just because it has a "trainz-build" number lower than 2.7, then I am not buying any thing later than the pre-multiplayer TS2010.

Any way, actually, I say "citation needed" to that, as it would almost seem rather foolish that N3V would develop Trainz to only support Trainz version 2.7 and later assets, when I am sure that there are plenty of assets for earlier Trainz versions that would work free of problems in TS2010 and later. ;)

Regards.
