TRS12

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooopleeeeeeeerr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's early days yet, but you'll find some of your questions answered here.

Nice feature list.
Looking forward to see the full list, containing all the changes.

About the reworked sound system - Is sound occlusion also being implemented or considered for implementation ? (so sound sources behind objects are more silent and when they are in full view the sound is faded to its full strength)
The FMOD library as an example, has that and more covered and would make a great new addition to trainz, but I guess lots of changes to existing sounds would be necessary to take advantage of some of the features.

About the additional demands on the video card - Is the graphics part of the engine being improved on ? (Ambient Occlusion, Soft Stencil Shadows on and from everything without the need for separate shadow meshes, Depth of Field, more Lights, etc.)
I take it my assumption for that vastly improved graphics may seem unrealistic, given the relative short development time (and the many changes on the engine this would mean) and close release date, but one should be allowed to hope. :)
At least you should give me just a tiny bit of credit for not putting in Displacement Mapping, Deferred Rendering, DX11 tesselation and other high-end stuff too.:hehe:

Seriously, MultiPlayer and the reworked sound engine will do just fine for me though.
Not sure if I'll be getting the collectors edition (it's very tempting) but we'll be seeing us in TS12 for sure.

A release in April? That seems a bit... soon. I'm having big doubts about this and even more with a collectors edition that only ten people will really get the full collectors edition.

Plus I mean, I felt a little deflated when I found out there was no extra content like a making of documentary or say a real model locomotive. Anyway I'll have to think long and hard on this before I purchase. I'm not sure about the April release date and 150 bucks is hard to ask when I can compare this to the Halo Reach Legendary Edition(at release) and find that much more worthy of a 150 for it's ability to include the same thing in every box while also having a limited run.

Also my opinion wasn't raised to much, though it is higher than it has in the past, I don't know if three main features is really sequel proof. We'll have to see with continued press coverage in the upcoming month.

I don't know, the audio changes give me some belief that it might be worth upgrading, even ignoring the extra content. Doppler alone is worth it, but it also means that they've switched to a new audio engine, which means that they may be able to fix some of the other audio issues either in TS12 at release, or in TS12 service packs.

AU$150 is clearly too much for me, but I'm not going to be delusional enough to believe that there isn't a non-Collectors Edition coming after, and AU$50-60 may well be justifiable IMO for the upgrades.

And for those harping on about it being a yearly release cycle, a late-April release will make it 18 months since TS2010 released, which isn't too much different from the 2-year cycle of auran's classic releases (sep 2003 -> sep 2005 -> july 2007, and definitely increases the cycle from the TS2009->TS2010 release cycle.

One also needs to bear in mind that a lot of the aspects of this release will steal the thunder from Railworks, which could be a massive boost to the perception of Trainz as being a modern sim - it'll mean a public release of multiplayer before RW's multi-player even goes into closed beta, and also inclusion of a much larger section of the NEC than the NEC that RSDL are working on.

Errrr, hate to tell you folks, but " Appalachian" is misspelled in the release notice I just got.

If you read closely you'll see that there are at least four or five misspelled words. Pretty sloppy attention to such simple detail. In today's world of communication and attention to detail and appearance, allowing this kind of sloppiness in advertising is inexcusable.:n: :n:

I will think you will find thats just because in Australia we spell a few words diffrent to what is done else where - like Colour and Color - we use an R

Funny guys! :hehe: :hehe: I hope you were being funny anyway.

Here's one sentence from the newsletter proclaiming the Grand Coming of 2012.

Design and Build your own railroads with the versatile Surveyor editiong tool and access hundreds of thousands of user-create assets from the Trainz Download Station. (I didn't even mention "Appalochian.")

I hope you guys don't spell "editing" that way. And, in "user-created" the "d" is not silent. You really should use it. How deep does this sloppiness and carelessness go? We'll see soon, I suppose.

Anyway - let's move on.

I am so used to "filling in the blanks" and re-arranging letters automatically as I read these forums that I didn't even notice the typos!

I believe most of the posters here took their English and grammar classes as correspondence courses, and most of it got lost in the mail. It's pretty bad!:o

I would hazard to suggest, that the people of the USA don't speak 'English'.
The English speak English, the Americans speak American.
I say this because, when you look at the different ways we spell words (colour - color), plus the use of different
words for the same things (trunk - boot, hood - bonnet, fender - bumper, sidewalk - pavement, etc) they should be classed as separate languages.

That's my take on it anyway. :)

So many unanswered questions in this thread.

Is it true that you have to wear elevator shoes before entering a lift in the USA?

Can someone please tell me what “Fourms” are?

What does the “12” in Trainz Simulator 12 really represent?

Cheers

Give us a break :'( - not all of us are native English speakers. Some of us have it as second or even third language....
