TRS12

Too be fair TS10 had the best routes of any TS release to date, not just because it was the newest, even in TC3 the built in routes were using default trees dating back to the stone ages and nary a piece of 3d grass to even be found, there really was no improvement in default routes from 04 to TC3, never had 09 so not sure what routes were in it. TS10 finally introduced some quality prototypical routes like MILW Rocky Mountain Division and the ECML, TS12 seems to take that even farther, finally some routes that will give us some quality items to use as well.

I have to agree. How can you not like Tumes route in TS2010? That has to be one of the better built in ones ever.

As with most everything, it all comes down to personal taste. My standards for 2006 and 2010 were, AND STILL ARE, McGuirel's Ohio Central and Dermmy's EK3. In my opinion, EK3 will be the standard FOR ME for quite some time.

Concerning the reference to Speed Treez being shown in the promo - I suppose you're making a reference to those scrawny twigs with globs of green sticking out of them. If that's what they're promoting as the "new realistic" Speed Treez, then Auran (or whoever) has a long way to go. I live among trees. Trees get in our way out here in PA. We know trees, and I have yet to see a tree anywhere around here that looks anything like those hideous blobs.

But, as I said, it's all a matter of personal preference. There will never, ever be a Speed Treez Cluster Blob on any layout I have.

I suppose I'm in the minority here, but I won't ever change my mind. 2012 did not have me, or folks like me, in mind.

I'm talking about most of the trees in the promo shots, really. I'm glad you can't tell which ones are SpeedTree though. It means we've done a fairly good job in most cases.

I happen to think that I know trees also - there is plenty of them here. In my opinion the trees that is present in the Chinese screenshots for TS2012 is very good. The ones in the russian screenshot is also good but some of them seam transparent which is strange...

I don't know if Dermmy's and Trunda's contributions to Trainz have been good or bad for Trainz's future. The realism in EK3 using Trunda's greenery is remarkable, and they are about as realistic as is possible - IMO.

I don't see anything coming along in the way of Speed Treez that can be better. The two of them have placed quite a challenge on the creators of trees, shrubs and route design that will stand quite a while as the standard. Once again - IMO.

No one is going to change my mind, and I'm not going to change anyone else's mind. I'm not looking for a pi$$ing contest here. They always turn out the same. Right where they began. Everyone's shoes and socks get soaking wet, and then after the warmth dissipates, the feet get very cold, and no one's mind has been changed.

When Dermmy, or someone like Dermmy, comes along and creates a route as realistic as EK3, without turning my route into a slide show, or having it appear as a bunch of scenes from The Wizard of Oz, I'll jump on board - pun intended. Until then, what I see is not for me.

Moreover, Auran has gotten a bunch of my $$ since I got into Trainz with 2004. In fact I even bought 2010 twice because of a disk crash that destroyed everything, and my backup came back as a mess. So, I'll be sitting out for a while. I see many interesting things coming!

yea thats what we did. and the other routes in TS12, albeit from other parts of the world, are done just as well.

k...

I'm not here to "rain on anyone's parade" lol
Count me in said the vampire.
I would really like this, no Trainz since 06 for me,
so it is worth it for me to step up to the plate again.:udrool::mop:
(steamplate that is).
haven't drooled for years lol

Disappoint who with what?
That picture looks like a scene from a cartoon. Check out the screenshot section, some of those shots look like real photos, especially the European routes.

I bought TS12.

Discovered my updated TS09 from Steam ran better. It ran my TS10 Ozark Northern great.

On a clear day you can see forever, TS09 Sp4 ran it but that is just TS10 with lipstick and sucks. It has the distance limiter and the top tree line would jump in and out and those background hills would disappear, Steam09 is what I wanted in TS10.

Dermmy's EK3 on Steam09 great draw distance, high frame rates and no Lord of the Ring Speed Trees. That is how the US Appalachians should look. That is a candid in game shot while the trains is moving.

I found my Trainz version that works, TS09 from Steam. Buy TS12 you might like it. I found it wanting.

Back in love with Trainz
Harold

PS. Did anyone notice that wood truss bridge on the N&W. Like that would support the Y-3 and 100 ton hoppers. Gimme a break N3V.

Okay.
So, according to your research Trainz 2009 as purchased from Steam runs better than Trainz12 or Trainz 2009 patched to SP4? If this is the case, why didn't you just reinstall 2009 without patching it to SP4? Did you go to the extra expense of purchasing 2009 twice? That was generous of you, if true. Are all the other parameters equal in your testing, or do you have settings disparities between installations?

No the TS09 on Steam was my first purchase. Yes I purchased TS09 after to patch up. It took N3V forever to patch the Steam version. I had lost track of that version. While updating Failworks on my XP machine TS09 finally updated. Ran it and it was better than the virgin version.

TS09 wouldn't load my TS10 Ozark Northern unless patched to SP4. Then it is TS10 without Speedtrees.

I ran everything with the same settings on my Win7 and my XP machine. The Steam09 is MY best version of Trainz.

Buy TS12 and see how it runs. Those are just observations not research. I want EK3 and the like to run without the draw limiter of TS10 and in compatability mode. Steam09 does it.

Finally happy in Trainz land
Harold

Thank you, now I understand.
There are some good points in your last post; using 2009 to avoid the draw distance limiter and the Triffids they call Speedtrees. What build of 2009 is the Steam version up to, I wonder, compared to the Trainz version? Possibly SP3?

Build 45856

5000m draw distance Goodweather fog 6 still get 13 FPS and drivable at this distance. Getting in the 20-40's on the ground and no stutter.

Happy in Trainz Land
Harold

Edit: the distant trees won't jump around when you go back to ground level
I am using Win7 64 on I7-920, 6G Ram and a GTX260
Sliders all "Normal"
