Thanks to everyone who offered tips and advice, TRS2012 doesn't want play with Windows 7 , by that I mean it doesn't want to load . I get an error messages. If I uninstall the software it will be filed in the trash . I have microsofts "flying Scotsman " sim and the strange thing is that works perfectly and that was designed to work with Windows 98se not Windows 7 64 bit .

I did contact the help desk , to no joy . Direct X 9 divers haven't cured the problem as for the patches not being harmful to the computer, my present anti virus sees theas a threat and refused to download them . Any further suggestions before I put the game in the trash ?

No suggestions but I have mine running on Windows 7 - 64 bit no problem and know many others who do. Sorry to see you are having problems. I used to work with process control software. Installed identical software into three identical machines one day and it worked in two and the third never ever was a successful install. Used the machine as an office machine with no problems. Just the luck of the draw.

Don't panic yet.

The DirectX download, if you get it from Microsoft, is not a virus.

If this still presents a problem, you may have to disable your antivirus to install it.

Do disable your antivirus when installing Trainz TS12 - actually good for any version for that matter.

So...reinstall and run Trainz as Administrator (Right-click on Setup and choose Run as Administrator. Click on the YES button to continue) in the following location:

C:\N3V\TS12

This will ensure that it has full access to its folders and let the program do its thing. Relax and put in any DVDs as asked if you have the DVD-boxed version.

Once done, launch the program and put in your details again.

If you want to patch up to the latest release... you can do this later, by the way, do the manual patches. We can help you when you get to that bridge to cross.

Hope this helps. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything - if not others will jump in and help.

Probably not what you want to read, I've been running TS12 with Win 7 (home edition) since I had this PC (30 months or so) and it' been OK with all the patches as well....

None of the patches have been flagged as a threat (I'm using Trend micro), though the standard advice is to install the patches with the Firewall and virus software OFF (and disconnected from the internet - i.e. save the patches then run then later).

The best advice I received was to create a special folder for the Trainz programs - in my case c:\Auran\TS12. This resolves a lot of minor problems created when the program is installed into the normal "programs" folder.

I also needed to add the C:\Auran folder to the exception list in the virus checker (otherwise every file loaded has to be inspected - this kills the game because a lot of the content is loaded on the fly).

On the first use, TS12 will run a database repair - this doesn't always show up, and the program appears to hang for some time. It does the same after applying a patch.

If you want a copy of the patches (later - I see that others have been replying while I type), I'll happily burn them onto a CD/DVD for you and post them (if/when you want, drop me a private mail with your address!).

It causes a system wide crash on start up if it stats at all , I've tried it on a laptop running windows 8 the laptop crashed . I've been told to upgrade my CPU I run P4 extreme the graphics card is a Nvidia 630 2 gig . I have 4 gig memory installed my machine meets the spec of the game . I did buy the game from "Game" its the 3rd disk I have had problems with . I'm at the point of removing it, reformatting my system and just throwing TRS 2012 in the trash .
I don't know what else to do to be honest
