Trouble finding consume industry for general goods

Well back again with having no luck finding an industry. Now I have the Factory 8 that produces general goods and the Hyde Pulp Mill that produces general goods. I just can't find an industry that will consume the general goods. I did find an asset G4 Goods Shed Long (PL) that will accept goods, but it specifies AUS General Goods. I don't know what that is. The Factory 8 and the Hyde Pulp Mill produce just plain General Goods. Anyway the Goods Shed will not unload just the plain General Goods. I don't have an industry that produces AUS General Goods. I also don't know what the PL means after the Goods Shed Long. I have been on the DLS many hours trying to search for an industry that will accept just the plain General Goods. NO LUCK!!! I would appreciate it if anyone knows where I can find an industry that will accept just the plain General Goods category...Please help...Thanks

The container station uses and produces general goods. If you want it to use them but not produce them just click on properties in surveyor and set the amount to produce to 0.

Use the built-in 'Multi-Industry New', it is an industry-enabled track you can drop in front of any building you like. Pretty sure GenGoods is already set up in it, easy enough to add it if it isn't...

"PL" is a suffix indicating Proto-Lars, an industry system which loads and unloads dropped of cars while you do other things. Somewhat more prototypical for most industries than drive-thru loading/unloading which really only applies to bulk commodities.

The built-in Seaport and Airport will also accept General Goods.

There's a flowchart in the manual which shows the relationships between the built-in industries and products. It needs two minor corrections: there should be an arrow from General Goods to Airport, and there should not be an arrow from 20/40ft Containers to Airport.

I sometimes use tafwebs Factory 8 (Kuid1942:27012) but use the AJS Earase spline to rmove the built in industry track then place the'Multi-Industry New' in its place, connect the track to the 'Multi-Industry New' and configure it to which ever commodity I need.. This can be done with other industies to change a factorys output to something different.

Dennis,
Are you sure you meant "Spline Eraser", and not "Track Eraser"? (kuid2:122285:1003:1) I tried it using Tafweb's factory, and "Track Eraser", and it worked.

An easy way (for TS2010 and likely TS2009/TS2006) to find out what scenery objects you have that use a particular product is to look the product up in Content Manager, right click it, and click View Dependent Assets. Then click View in Main List and sort them by type. To find out if a particular industry produces the item or consumes it, look at the queues or processes part of the config file.

These items are built-in for TS2010 and I believe all accept general goods:

Warehouse-Ind-50m-S2-Mullan-001 <kuid2:82412:5000016:1>
Reefer Ice Industry Track <kuid2:67794:10003:1>
Loading Ramp <kuid2:60318:2608:1>
Warehouse large <kuid2:30671:27901:4>
Goods Shed Ind <kuid:1942:27020>
Goods Shed Mindrum <kuid:1942:27037>
Warehouse small <kuid:30671:27900>

These DLS items might also be of interest, they are basically Multiple Industry New tracks with loading ramps so you can actually see products waiting for pickup. (Though the included queues might not work well for some product types, figuring out what products can be put in what queue is a trial and error process.)

MI VR Loading Ramp <kuid2:60318:1082:1>
MI VR Jib Loading Ramp <kuid2:1854:48004:1>

I'm lost, I can't figure out how you change the industries commodity to something else. When I bring up the property on an asset I can see no way of editing the commodities that are already there. Some assets bring up a blank property window. How do you add a commodity in those? I'm just a beginner as you can see......

With most of the built-in industries you can't change it. The only exception I can think of is Multi-Industry New (MIN) which because of its flexibility is more complicated to set up.

Industries created by users may or may not allow their products to be changed, and if they do then they might adopt various methods of doing so. You might need to check if the asset includes a readme file, or if not then perhaps ask here or contact the creator.

 Thanks so much to all who have replied to my question. I am now working on my route session and trying out the different assets that have been mentioned here. I am gaining on it though. You all have been a great help to me...I may be back....Happy Railroading !!!!

From what I've read, it is possible to change what products an industry uses even if it doesn't normally allow it, but that would involve editing the config.txt file which would cause problems if you wanted to distribute the route or modified industry later.

In addition to Multiple Industry New (and objects that use it like the two loading ramps I posted above) there are LARS and ProtoLARS industry tracks which are capable of handling a variety of item types. (Those are usually grouped into categories from what I've seen though, so one track might not be able to handle everything.) I haven't really tried them out so am not sure how configurable they are.

Edit: Oh, and one other thing that I've seen mentioned is that it's possible to "erase" the industry track from an industry object with AJS Spline Eraser and use an industry track like Multiple Industry New or the LARS stuff instead if you want to use the building but don't want to use that product. (You won't get the visible product queue though, which is why I like those MIN based loading ramps.)

Which Manual are you talking about, because I can't find any flow chart.
