Trams again?

hyper_kameo, hmm interesting view of Flinders & Swanston Sts, BUT hyper, if I was you, I would straighten out the traffic turning from Flinders into Swanston Street towards the left of the picture (towards the Art Centre).

It's up to you, but I'm just wondering wether the Flinders Street/Swanston St island tram stop (in Flinders St) would be better before the stop became an island stop, which brings me to another point. Aren't island tram stops are bit more dangerous than on each side of the tram line, and wouldn't island stops (except for wide streets) get in the way?

Melbourne

No that would be a big or bigger than trying to do Glasgow.

Yes Island stops are the way it is in Melbourne, there eith connected for them passengers to the footpath by traffic lights or walking legs crossings for the larger stops, for the others it just wait on the footpath tillthe tram has narly stoped and walk across the road to them. the normal in Melbourne is the traffic stops just behind the rear of the tram.

All I can say is good luck

Be nice to see the early cable system too, bearcat made some suitable ones for 04

I've never noticed that before!

I don't know, but something doesn't look right with the tram stop terminus in Elizabeth St - um besides a Brisbane tram! (But then again is a Brisbane tram strictly wrong for Melbourne, does at times trams from various cities)

What was I gong to say about this, oh yeah, that suppose to be what part?

Red Rattler - That last image that so confuses you is obviously a section of St Kilda Rd.
To Hyper_Kameo, I wish you well with this project.

Hey all,

I'm thinking of doing the Blackpool Tramway route. However I need someone to make a DEM map for me with a map of the basic route of where it goes. Can someone help me? :D

Cheers,
Mike

Barn700 Paul has some great Z1 and Z3 trams and is working on some other Mel trams - drop him a email

Already got one from him, and reskining the combino (which i noticed 2 versions now)

And if i can work out the files for the citadis id do that too... getting annoyed now :)

A program called tgatool2 will get you into the .texture files (it's free on the web). I've managed to open the Citadis' textures that way. I haven't tried to apply my own skin yet though - let us know how you get on...

Yeah thanks for that i found that yesterday after about 4-5 hours of serching fourms and net it self. However i am still at a loss to change anything ... yes it opens and opens in a paint editing program.. and yes you can repaint it... but as to saving it and replacing the files and getting it to change..... i am at a loss.... after about 7-8 hours yesterday trying.... i walked away :) So i thought id send email to denis fr in the hope of an answer. Any body any ideas?????

Also Paul i repainted the tram i paid for and you that sent through. Hope thats cool.... personal use only and not putting it anywhere on net.

I'm not sure about creating .texture files. I think they are regarded as pretty much obsolete. It's possible that using a tga file, and a .texture.txt file pointing to it (like most other assets) may work, but I've never tried. Anyone?

I trust you're not confusing me with Paul of Paulz Trainz (barn700) - Most creators don't worry about private re-skins - some might be interested in a little collaboration, especially if the skin is good and not fictional.

***happy dance*** i changed the files at last for citadis

Found a little program after almost a week that changed tga file str8 to the texture files.

I used the tgatool2 program as well.

Here are a few pics of the layout with the said changed trams, i found better trees for St Kilda Rd 2

Hyper_Kameo, doing a great job at replicating Melbourne tram environment. I presume the yellow citadis is a copy of the Bumblebee "Mulhouse" Citadis on loan?

Looking good! You might have use of this item: 69084:38024. It's a points lever designed for tramways that just shows an access cover in the road.

The re-skins look good - could you post a link to the software that creates tgas to .texture files?

Thanks,

Paul

the link for the little program is this http://amabilis.com/eve/forums/a/tp...ra=Y&s=2396098374&m=10110414911&f=62110741311

its the first post and the download link in the window.

If that does not work google (TRSTEX trainz) it should be the only link to show.

When using it i just selected the file (tga) and left alpha unchecked and the none checked then just convert.

Also make sure you have the latest files and stuff for the tgatool2 program.

Thanks for your comments. Yes it is the new Trams in Melbourne. Have not finished it yet. I was testing the skinning thing last night so had not completed it.

I also weed a little when it loaded to yellow after starting trainz up. :)

Can you check the item: 69084:38024. number i dont think its the thing your talking about.

For those that know Glasgow......

I am concious that I spent a bit of time on the layout south of the river whereas I come from the west across the Clyde. Now going back over places done a long time ago I see a need to make some alterations. Have completely re-done the whole area from Anderston Cross to Finnieston area. Then realised had missed out the stations at Anderston Cross and Finnieston even though bits of railway are just background because this is a tramway. At Partick the rail staion is on the south side of Dumbarton Rd wheras in tram days and for a time after 1962, it was on the north side. How I managed to miss that one when I live in the west and knew that I don't know! So a move there.

Likewise looking at my 1960 city map the former Kelvinbridge rail station is not right and needs moved a bit beside the River Kelvin. I will use early July for going over some other glaring items but equally know I must self-discipline myself (being ex-Boys' Brigade may help?!). Having done the whole of the city of Glasgow spread over the last two and a half years off an on I could be at it forever making changes.

I would hope that once the obvious changes are done by the end of July, I would be giving thought to getting it available for tram fans that want to see what the former city system was like. My only regret is thaat I completely cocked up part of the trunk road, Great Western Rd. Before I discovered Google Earth I had made the bit from St George's Cross to Kelvinbridge was too short and the part from there to Botanic gardens too long and found I was so out of sync that I have need to make 2 bends that are not there. Most of the rest of the city is fairly near the mark.

Having walked over 200 miles all told and sometimes interrupted by my Diabetes it has been an extra love of my life from a boy who wanted to be a Glasgow tram driver. Lastly for now I hope to be in direct touch with the Transport Museum personally on my build and when I get round to adding FRAPS so a running tram can be seen. Doing it through a City Council Dept was a waste of time last year. I have portrayed the Glasgow Tramway as a living museum so to speak and it's entirety including a small handful of routes abandoned in the mid 30's. A great deal of time was spent searching around to ensure I found where a terminus was or where lines are now covered by motorway or new housing.

I found that with such a large project on a city was very time consuming but it got me into some needed exercise and much walking. Met may interesting people on my sojourns and amongst older people who remembered the trams animated chats. Glasgow was a tram city and Glaswegians loved them even if the city fathers were different. Got to places never been in for decades and some never been in even though I have travelled across the world! Many frustrations and put offs but stuck to it as I a ever thankful the day I first discovered Auran Trainz. Goodness, i even managed to get a woan friend to give up a meal date and had her driving trams!

Such is the delight and great fun and enjoyent of Trainz!

I'm pretty sure that 69084:38024 is correct. The thumbnail is for the whole pack (lots of other useful bits & pieces), so it doesn't really show the item. This shot shows it better:
