TrainzDEM Program

Been a long while since I messed with Trainz. Maybe about 12 years give or take..... I got Trainz22PE. Some questions regarding TrainzDem. Looks like it's 5 years old. Will it work for the surveyor in Trainz 2022? And, how in the heck to do you contact the guy to get it? Says to email him but it's not at all clear to what his email is.....

Welcome back!

Yes, TransDEM works fine. The only thing that doesn't work is raising and lowering existing TRS19 and up routes due to a file structure change, but all the other options work fine such as importing routes.

There has been a recent patch too that came out in January, meaning that the program isn't dead even though the last official release was 5 years ago, and there are some other features new features added too in TransDEM such as UTM tiles and the ability to import PDF files for tile placement.

Visit http://www.rolandziegler.de/StreckeUndLandschaft/startseiteTransDEMEngl.htm

1) Create an email using the email address found on the 'Order' page | contact | rolandziegler | de | hint: between contact and rolandziegler add in the 'AT' @ symbol and add a DOT before de, no spaces

You will need to type the email address, do not copy & paste it's due to Roland's anti spam service provider
2) Subject must type 'TransDEM Order' or you can add your name as well, example 'TransDEM Order first name last name' in the subject line
3) In the email

Must Include:
Full name and address, make sure to include your country and postcode.
Contact phone number and email address
Payment option: Paypal or if you wish to use the authors other options this is at your own descension

Roland, will then contact you back with instructions to pay for TransDEM. Please give him a few days to respond
Also, please inform Roland that you have successfully paid for TransDEM via your method of choice
Once Roland has confirmed that your payment has been successfully received, he will then provide you TransDEM and other files required
for TransDEM.

I've noticed several weird issues with DEMs made using transdem, both had one board where the terrain is jelly like near the edges where two boards meet. if the track goes nearby, you will have big issues manipulating the terrain, in one case i have a 4 metre hole that cant be fixed. Other then that, it can be really good, but it all depends on the quality of the topo maps , for instance in some cases heights can be many meters out and creeks and smaller depressions do not register. Dont assume that they are 100 % accurate and double check heights etc and you'll be fine.

Have you updated to 2.6.6.2?

Well, still no luck with the email...... contact@rolandziegler. de doesn't do jack. I've looked this up and it seems quite common that one has to jump thru hoops to download it. I get he wants to protect his program, but has to be other ways to contact him.

I tried contact@rolandziegler.de using my Firefox browser and it at least didn't bounce back. Why I had problems with using Chrome I have no clue. Anyhow been 15 minutes and it looks like it went thru. With luck I get a reply in a few days or so. If I still have no success, I try Phil's PM he sent.

I've never had any problems contacting Roland or with his way of selling his program. It is not just a Trainz oriented program but has many uses outside of Trainz and I suspect he sells far more copies to non-Trainz users. The last time I contacted him to order an update the entire transaction took 11 minutes from him responding to my email showing my proof of purchase of an earlier version to him sending the new registration code and temporary download link. His response will not come from the email you use to contact him but from mail at his domain. Make sure that account is not blocked by your spam filter.

I'm still confused about using TrainzDEM to create a 1:100 scale miniature route with contours adjusted to the scale. Can anyone make a video tutorial?

A simple search on the web produced this:

There are many others and there's also the tutorials in the very detailed user documentation.

Xamin: I am pretty sure that DEMs do not scale in TransDem the way you are thinking about it, but check with Roland Ziegler as recommended above. Scale is the proportional size to real life measurements and guage is the measured distance between the rails. Search this in your browser for more info. Trainz allows you to chose among 11 different scales to when you first create a new route model. Real (1:1), TT (1:120), HO (1:87), etc., are just a few examples. You can test this by creating and name a route at each of these scales. Then edit the route and use the model ruler to measure the width of a single trainz basesboard. The results are, Real scale = 2,358.9 ft, TT scale =19.7 ft, HO scale = 27.1 ft, and O scale =49.1 These measurements scale exactly. There are no train model scales at 1:100 that I am aware of so Trainz doesn't offer that scale. When a new route is created in Trainz, modeling parameters are selected including Scale and Working Units, i.e. Metric or Imperial. TransDem processes and exports the DEM into a format that Trainz can import. When Trainz imports the DEM, it automatically scales the DEM (x,y,z) to match the scale you set in Trainz when the route was created.

Everything is Trainz is 1:1 no matter what ruler scale you choose.
And since everything is relative, instead of reducing the scale of the train to achieve the desired scale, simply enlarge the room and the humans watching by the opposite amount. The scale will be respected.

Exactly. Everything is relative whether it's related or not. ;-)
