Trainz Wikibook?

I'll second this...it seems to be a common problem with manuals/tutorials in general. The folks who write/edit the manuals are well versed in the coding and or use. They tend to assume and skip over the most rudimentary parts. I can explain how to build a tube type audio amplifier, but if you don't know what a rectifier does, you get nowhere. I see this thread is already getting into Gmax & content creation. To me, that would seem very advanced.
I'm not knocking this idea, but, please bear in mind the "keep it simple" and understandable, principles.
That said, I'm glad to help in any way I can.

Now the nice part about the wiki is you can edit the tutorial to either say this is not clear or to clarify the tutorial.

Don,

I've had a go at editing that page but felt increasingly guilty - I hope I haven't annoyed the original creator.

Looks better to me. Probably I'm not too bad at getting the ideas down but it takes a translator to write clearly. I used to keep a librarian in the office to do the translation into understandable English for me. The combination worked very well.

Collins, Welcome aboard. There's plenty of writing to go around. Best to start by reading the discussion page associated with the main page. Be sure to create an account and add yourself to the authors page.

I've just dropped in a reskin example but the layout is not good.

Anyone fancy making the text stand out from the images?

Thanks John

Wikibook

When you upload a screen shot apparently they want some words to go with it called a rationale. I'm unclear what they want or how to update existing images or add the text to new images.

Suggestions please there are a fair number of images that need something whatever it is.

Thanks

John,
HELP:Uploading images can be found at
http://en.wikibooks.org/wikiHelp:Uploading_Images
at para.5 Upload an image to English Wikibooks it says :-
3 Upload your file
> Describe your file; give the source of the image (preferably a URL). If you made the image and own the copyright say so.
> Choose the correct license or fair use option from the menu. This automatically inserts a image copyright tag such as {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}, {{GFDL}}, or {{screenshot}}.

Image Deletions
All images must have a valid image copyright tag.
EDIT I think you may have to re-upload all your images to comply with the above. Have a look at the Help file anyway

I think its fixed, apparently in the US a screen shot of something in notepad etc. needs a rationale why you are using a screen shot of propitiatory rather than open source software. I had an issue in that I could see the file descriptions but apparently I had to look at them from a different screen to be able to drop the red tape in.

Strange lot these southerners and I think we can add wikibooks to GMAX as having a learning curve. Still its coming together quite nicely.

One of the criticisms of Trainz DLS is the volume of items and how the categories aren't well filled in.

Would it be worth while simply cataloguing the kuid numbers and title by something?

UK steam locos

GWR

LMS

LNER

US steam locos

US diesel

etc?

I note we are getting some deliberate sabotage in the wikibook from people who are displeased with the Auran forum. Google has a version that apparently stops this to some extent.

Can we restrict our wikibook in some way to prevent the sabotage?

Thanks John
