Trainz vs MSTS-02-UNBIEST OPINION

Well one huge difference is this.

ACE/MS will package together a solid product that will last for years. MSTS and way earlier versions of MSFS are still being enjoyed today as well as 3rd party content being created.

TS/Auran seem to think the best way to fix their shoddy product is to allow you to buy a new version, verses fixing the poorly packaged (or maybe the beta testers drop the ball) version they have out now.

I think Auran relies on being the only currant game in town for business and not their ability to put together a solid sim with little to no flaws.

Hmmm, you must be using a different Trainz cause mine (TS2009, TRS2004)) looks good and works very well. And yes I have tried MSTS and you must have a special version because I never managed to build any substantial route with it.

Please investigate the role of beta testers before accusing them of dropping anything.

I can’t even get 2009 to patch. :( I tried many different ways, even a fresh install and nothing worked. That to me is not a perfectly working system. Granted you may not have this issue.

TS is a nice platform and the route building is better than MSTS.

From my point of view and that is what he asked for, each of our points of views; there seems to be some holes in how the product is worked. Take 2010 for instance, with 2009 out there why do an entirely new sim? Why not work on what they have and iron it out? :o

I have 2004, 2006 and 2009. Each one had about the same content. :hehe:

As for the Beat tester point; why do people here get so offended so fast? :'( If the Beta testers are doing 100% and the programmers and Auran team are doing 100%; then why are there errors in the product?

See I can use smilies too. :p

Ferngren, it's not MSTS-2 from what I can gather.

According to the other forum, I believe (at the moment) that it is a one man show, and somehow has the source codes or whatever they are called. My comment was that Microsoft may not like what they are doing.

My understanding is that the "Open Rail" simulator being discussed on UKTS is a new programme that will run MSTS routes. No connection with MS past, present or future.

Cascade Studios consist of ex Aces staff but if and when they do release a train sim, it's unlikely to be based on MSTS2 code or endorsed by MS.

IMHO whatever happens next in the train sim scene, we are unlikely to see anything from MS - they are more interested in the X-Box and "media" style stuff.

That's why would their be any copyright issues?

Yes I would imagine if they wanted to make a fuss, they could. Fom what I understand Open Rail is new source code that happens to be able to import MSTS data... How that works legally is maybe open to interpretation but if they wanted to be pedantic, could be classed as "decompiling".

As regards Horseshoe Curve, carry on building in TRS definitely. Even if Cascade produce a train sim it won't necesarily be the routes MSTS2 was going to feature.
