Trainz Plus Gold

By "installer" do you mean software installer (e.g. Trainz Plus/TRS22) or how DLC is installed (since this discussion is about DLC)?
Software installers that are downloadable from MyTrainz.

My copy of Trainz Plus was originally "installed" without the need for an installer. I had TRS19PE already installed when I paid the subscription and the next time I started TRS19 it had turned into Trainz Plus. All the code for Trainz Plus was already built into TRS19PE and my username and password, stored in the Trainz Settings, activated the Plus code.
Same.

As for DLC, your username also allows you to access and download the exclusive packages if you have Trainz Plus or Trainz Plus and Gold membership.
This is why I wonder where is the purpose of different installers.

In the past, if we had Trainz Plus, any DLC that was made available to us with Plus became available in our other owned TRS22 versions. I'm not sure if this is the case any longer because I keep a copy of TRS22 PE vanilla without DLC for testing purposes only and periodically purge the data-folder after testing routes.
That is still true. With the exception of some Trainz Plus exclusive items. Coal Country HDT is the first one that comes to mind.

So DLC for Plus used to work in 22 PE but not now? There's now no way to transfer the content over to 22PE or install it in 22PE? This basically forces you to buy the subscription in order to use the Plus only content. Are there any advantages to buying the gold for over $100 vs. the one for under $100 a year? I understand though when you decide to not renew that whatever work you did in Plus becomes inaccessible until you pay again. Maybe you can access the cmp and view the files but they probably won't work in 22PE because of the higher build. It's like my local amusement park, my brother and I get season passes almost every year, if we decide to not renew one year the inside of the park becomes inaccessible to us until we pay again. I get Trains Magazine by Kalmbach, since 1986, and I have older issues packed away from a guy on ebay several years ago, going back to the 40's, if I don't renew one year then the magazines will stop coming in the mail until I renew again. Trainz Plus works on the same principle. I had a free year of Plus when I bought 22PE but it expired. I didn't do much in it. Just started an Amtrak Auto Train route that didn't get very far.

The content is available in Trainz PE if you are currently subscribed to Plus.
The advantage of Plus is you get access to all the DLC as part of your subscription for $100 per year (roughly). If you were to purchase the DLC separately, you are talking about at least a thousand dollars if not much more. The advantage then is you own all the DLC no matter what.

As far as I know, you can access content you created, such as a route for example, but any content that came from packages is inaccessible. I may be mistaken and others can correct this.

Yes, I know the Dovetail train sim has a lot of DLC and it can add up. Some freeware routes won't work properly without content from several payware routes so the route isn't really free if you didn't buy the payware routes yet. Trainz has a lot of DLC, too with trains and routes and it can add up. Then you have JR, K&L Trainz, etc. with more payware stuff.

That's right. With Trainz, you can always substitute content if necessary. For stuff that's on the DLS, it'll still be on the DLS even if it's packaged with DLC. There are still a number of assets outstanding and we need to let N3V know when we come across them.

What will get you in trouble is when you've used assets that are specific to one of the DLC routes.

Free DLC is only available to gold subscription users. Standard membership does not include free DLC access. Some DLC is for gold membership only and can not be purchased. DLC will run in all 22 versions, but will disappear from none Plus versions if the subscription stops. This does not apply to DLC purchased and installed.
You had a free year of Gold membership, but unless you also downloaded the Plus version you were still using 22/22PE retail versions.

So the updated Amtrak Silverliners, RDC's, etc. can only be used if you subscribe to Plus and pay every year in order to continue using them? Even in non-Plus versions? Will they eventually be in a future retail release so that I don't have to pay for a subscription every year? Other DLC you pay one time and it's yours forever. There are free Silverliners and RDC's out there that work in any Trainz version.

As I posted above, these are some of the "fringe benefits" of being a Trainz Plus or a Gold subscriber. There is nothing wrong with that and it is a part of life these days (e.g. my social club subscriptions). If it brings a steady revenue stream into N3V and keeps development going then I am all for it.

Will these subscription only DLC packages eventually become available for purchase by all Trainz users? Possibly, and I hope so, but by then I suspect that other "subscriber only" offerings will become available.

Do I have to buy the more expensive Gold subscription or can I get the one for under $100 and still get those DLC's?

Hi All
Just to confirm, each DLC pack will show in the Trainz Store if it is included in just the Trainz Plus Gold membership, or both the Trainz Plus Standard and Trainz Plus Gold membership.

Additionally, each DLC is shown here, along with which memberships it is included with: https://info.trainzsimulator.com/trainz-plus#contentindevelopment

Some Trainz Plus or Trainz Plus Gold exclusive DLCs may become included in future retail releases, some may remain exclusive to memberships for the current time.

Regards

"Blue Comet 2.0 - The Seashore's Finest Train" is listed but can be purchased in the Store.

Missing in the list:

Model Trainz: New Haven Industrial
The Wattz & Voltz Interurban
Santa Fe Needles District

DLC that you have to be paying for constantly if you want to use it is really stretching the definition of ‘free’.

Close enough for government work.

No extra cost once you subscribe sort of implies the "free" part

Like "Free" health care, "Free" education, "Free" public roads, "Free" public libraries, "Free" emergency services, ... the list goes on ... all paid for by your taxes.

You are a lot more lucky than we are in the states. No free healthcare here. All Obama did was mandate you had to buy insurance with co-pays and limits.

To those who don’t pay taxes for what ever reason, those are free.

However, we’re talking about assets that can only be accessed for a sum of money, unlike the assets that the community provided for free.
