Purchasing Trainz Plus will not give you all the extras for your TRS22 install. You need to install Trainz Plus from your MyTrainz account at the top of this page. You will then need to copy your 22 build folder and paste it somewhere, and then direct Plus to that folder.

Remove your email address from your post. Having your email in there will open up a conduit to more spam than you already receive.

To access the HD Terrain baseboards. You need to use Surveyor 2.0 as you noted.
Using the selection tool, look for the very small additional options icon to appear somewhere on the border of your selected area. Clicking on that will bring up an option to create baseboards. Select HD Terrain from the list provided.

You can convert existing baseboards on routes you've already created the same way. There are some caveats to doing this due to the 16-texture limit that applies to all baseboards. If you have more than that then they will be removed leaving bare spots.

By "HD tables" I am guessing that you mean HD baseboards?

I do not know if you have used Surveyor 2.0 before but it is a steep learning curve.

There is specific information on using HD Terrain in Trainz Plus at

When I had Trainz Plus Gold I checked out how HD terrain works and I must admit it, it was pretty cool but overall pointless because
HD terrain is not yet compatible in TRS22 standard or PE despite PE having Surveyor 2.0

HD terrain is not pointless. It works perfectly well in Trainz Plus. Just because it doesn't work in TRS22 without "dumbing down" is no reason to dismiss it.

There are routes on the DLS that are built with HD terrain that are intended for Trainz Plus users, not for TRS22 users.
Fair! I know it works well in Trainz Plus, but I feel that N3V could make HD terrain routes compatible with TRS22/PE
Maybe in the new Trainz game to celebrate 25 years of Trainz in November 2026 😂

I understand your point but Trainz Plus needs features not found in other versions to make the subscription a worthwhile choice. For example: Surveyor 2.0 appeared in Plus when TRS19 was the retail alternative. Full HD, full Multiuser Surveyor and the early release of TLR are currently the Plus only features over TRS22. I am certainly aware that HD will not be everyone favourite option - it has a huge file size penalty that would require more work on the compression algorithm when saving to resolve.

Possibly the next retail version (TRS25? or TRS26) may contain the full HD while Plus gets an updated and complete TLR, for example.

I don't like the direction that Trainz is going in that some assets, routes, DLC, etc. are locked behind a subscription paywall. Because the build number of Plus is higher, they won't work in regular 22. You have to buy a subscription to Plus which you have to pay again and again every year to continue using it. Regular 22PE was a one time purchase.

Incorrect. I have both Trainz Plus and TRS22PE installed and routes and sessions that I create in Plus (with asset build number 5.6) work perfectly in 22 (with asset build number 5.6). The reverse is also true. The only things in Trainz Plus that will not work in TRS22 (standard) are Surveyor 2.0 and full HD terrain which can still load into TRS22PE and TRS22 (standard) but cannot be edited at HD level.

There have always been extras (DLC, etc) that came installed with every new release of Trainz - T:ANE, TRS19, TRS22, Trainz Plus all had/have payware content included in the purchase. TRS22 (both versions) and Trainz Plus both come with 6 built in routes. If you are a Trainz Plus Gold subscriber then you get total access (it is actually added in your subscription fee) to all DLC content.

Are you complaining about having to pay for DLC that is not included in TRS22? I am a member of several clubs where, because I am a member, I get discounts on meals, drinks, entertainment and other facilities that non-members do not get. I also get exlusive access to facilities and deals. Is this fair? I pay an annual membership (a subscription) that helps keep those clubs going. Those "fringe benefits" are the reason I continue to pay the subscriptions. It is the same with Trainz Plus.

The subscription model is now common throughout the software industry - but with Trainz if you don't want it or cannot afford it then you do not have to get it. You can still buy the retail (pay once only) version if you want to. A new retail version comes out about every 3 years so, technically, you can still end up paying "again and again" to keep up with the latest version.

I had thought that this argument about subscriptions had been thrashed out years ago when Trainz Plus was first released about 5 years ago. The "doomsayers" were claiming that within a few years Trainz will be all subscription. That hasn't happened, but of course if you wait long enough all predictions about the end of the world will eventually come true.

As was repeatedly explained back then, subscriptions provide a steady cash flow to N3V. This provides more resources such as more staff (they were able to employ more programmers as a direct result of Trainz Plus subscriptions - which must tell you something about how successful it has been) which speeds up development and provides new features much faster than the old "stop-go" income model where cash flow is dependant on once only sales.

I am a Trainz Plus subscriber and a Gold Class member. I have not regreted either move but I appreciate that those options are not for everyone.

Ok. Can I get the RDC's and the Amtrak Superliners from Plus in regular 22PE? The RDC's are a paid DLC that say Trainz Plus, if I buy them will they work in 22PE? If not, there are RDC's on the DLS, by magicland and pweiser and there are other Superliners but not as detailed as the Plus ones.

I do not know what asset build numbers are required by those packages but there is NO content with asset build 5.6 (the latest asset build number that is currently available) or lower that will NOT install in both Trainz Plus and TRS22PE. I have both Trainz versions and the Content Store in both has the Install button for the Amtrak Superliners and the Budd RDC-1.

AFAIK your right to install DLC is determined only by your Trainz Username and password (after purchasing the content or having it automatically available via Gold membership), not by which version of Trainz you are installing it on. Obviously, the higher the build number the later the version of Trainz that is needed - you cannot install an asset of build 5.2, for example, on TRS19 which requires build numbers of 4.9 or less.

Try it and see. Since you have already paid for the packages it will not cost you anything other than the download and install time.

Your Trainz username and login will determine whether or not you have Gold Membership or Trainz Plus and can, therefore, access any DLC that is exclusive to those users.
So, why is there an installer for Trainz PE and a different one for Trainz Plus?

Sorry, I don't understand the question.

By "installer" do you mean software installer (e.g. Trainz Plus/TRS22) or how DLC is installed (since this discussion is about DLC)?

My copy of Trainz Plus was originally "installed" without the need for an installer. I had TRS19PE already installed when I paid the subscription and the next time I started TRS19 it had turned into Trainz Plus. All the code for Trainz Plus was already built into TRS19PE and my username and password, stored in the Trainz Settings, activated the Plus code. I don't think that is the case now - when you pay the subscription you are able to download and install Trainz Plus but it won't activate if your username does not match with the list of Trainz Plus users kept by N3V.

As for DLC, your username also allows you to access and download the exclusive packages if you have Trainz Plus or Trainz Plus and Gold membership.

In the past, if we had Trainz Plus, any DLC that was made available to us with Plus became available in our other owned TRS22 versions. I'm not sure if this is the case any longer because I keep a copy of TRS22 PE vanilla without DLC for testing purposes only and periodically purge the data-folder after testing routes.
