Trainz "Next" is announced...

I agree that Multiplayer Surveyor (MPS) will not be everyone's idea of paradise. Exactly how many will use it will probably not be known until it has been released in at least beta format. However, I do not believe that MPS will be the only new feature in T:ANE NEXT. We will have to wait and see.

There will be all kinds of niceties I'm sure. We've been testing a lot of new things in the test lab, which I hope will appear in the "Next" version.

Well seeming as i used to run a traincraft/railcraft minecraft server, i cant wait for this. i would come back every evening and someone would ahve built a half KM line to the south to go open a new mine pit.

I wonder if NEXT will incorporate this sort of idea, more like a transport tycoon / railroad tycoon aspect to the game. huge procedual world stretching out in whatever direction, and people having to forge their way through. maybey just big empty maps!

I do not now nor will I ever support subscription based gaming, it will never work for Trainz, I pay yearly for a FCT as it is. I actually thought twice on this on many times and many occasions how it will impact not just the Trainz users but new customers as well

A subscription is already in place for FCT and we do not need to pay twice, as I also understand where they what to go with this, but its a bad idea. :o

I see know use for multiplayer. It would only be good for about maybe 10 to 20 percent off people who play the game...
I agree with you on that point. I have yet to activate the Multiplayer Mode at any time for any route, and I never will. I can see the interest that certain people might have in such social interaction, but it's not for me...

When I Trainz, I am Creator and Controller: everything shall obey my command, Ha Ha Ha Ha Haaaaaaa! Er, please excuse that uncontrolled outburst...:o

What I would like to see is a way to filter out all multiplayer sessions, turn off chat and remove the icon from the control bar, and disable whatever else that is social other than DLS...I just want to be a hermit in Trainz world (and Creator/Controller)...

Hi,

Besides the obvious, your trainz is your trainz ... meaning, so, multiplayer is there for those who enjoys it, and if it's not your cup of tea ignore it ... Now. not being harsh, of course, just a normal observation!

Now, generally speaking, that also goes for Trainz "NEXT" features ... folks have expressed their feelings about the subscriptions method. but Tony said on his FAQ, it's there for those who want it -- And trianz will still work all the same!:hehe:

Kind Regards
Ish

What he said!

I can understand complaints about things that don't work the way people think they should but it's beyond me when they go on about features they don't use.

... it's beyond me when they go on about features they don't use.

I think that that is a normal reaction in life as well as gaming - perhaps it is a fear that something you don't like or don't want will become an unavoidable core component (like taxes).

I don't need the extra clutter on my screen, not to mention space wasted (probably not much in the grand scheme, but I still paid for it) and resources consumed to make it work. I'd rather not have Multiplayer Surveyor present at all. Sell it as an addon to a "Deluxe" version for those that really care to have it.

Hmmm, suppose every part of Trainz was an independent module that you could buy or not buy, 10c here, 25c there. You only buy what you want. Every menu, every button, every screen feature. Naturally there will be some overhead cost to make them all work together. I wonder if a business case could be made for this? Would it be up to the user to have all the parts needed to make it work?
Kind of reminds me of the Ferengi economic model where you paid for everything, one part at a time.

It's already - to some extent - the current model, with T:ANE Standard versus T:ANE Deluxe. Some users have stated they'd prefer a bare-bones version with NO content. Indeed, as originally written on KickStarter, there was to be a "Driver Edition", which lacked Surveyor.

There are some other pluses to this model as well.

G'day, there is a Driver Edition, it's already out and strangely enough it's called Trainz Driver 2016
cheers,
Graeme

Well that wouldn't make support a nightmare at all.

Hello Gentlemen--

I'll be honest with you guys, and perhaps this honesty comes from being here with my first trainz --- trainz 1.3 -- It still sits as the pioneer edition among my other trainz purchases, because it introduced a world in which I can make my own railroad, and that was so cool --- note, this is 2000/2001, and pc's, and even games are not so powerful and/or graphically driven ... The forum wasn't huge either. With that said, I just bought it. and bough the next edition, and so on ... I never question what I needed, or didn't need, as long as the tools to fully enjoy that part of trainz that I wanted to enjoy was there! -- I think folks have lost that part... over analyzing ... over speculating... passing too much judgement, etc I think we need to trust Tony, and lead him guide us ... Since the CC chaos, he has been very very transparent with us all --- there's no hidden agenda. He's here to answer questions, and sometimes he answers questions, which has no answers, too, but he tries to satisfies his customers ... There's even a FAQ that covers Trainz NEXT questions, etc ...

My personnel feelings!
Would I use the subscription method? 99% of my answer is no; But would it bother me to see there, no... And if I feel like trying it out, at least, it's there ... But to make a fuss about something I might not use is a waste of energy.

Take Care all --

Ish :)

BTW: Here's a huge example of Tony's transparency, in case you've missed it:

Ja, like he said...

Aw, shucks...all the complaining about multiplayer is way down in the noise for me. In fact, I find the bright green "BUY ME!!!!" <stuff> far harder to ignore; it would be nice to have a "Thanks, but no thanks..." option here...

If the Powers-That-Be think we all share the same Multiplayer Passion, then that just might be where all the development resources end up...They need to know that a good number of us crawled out of our dank dungeons, basements, garages, and attics from HO layouts covered in mildew to bask before our screens in awe of this amazing super Trainz set. Our social skills are best kept at a formal distance, "Thank ye very much."

"You mess with my Trainz set and I'll gladly chop ye fingers off and feed them to me fishies!" Nah, no Multiplayer interest here...

But actually the multiplayer Surveyor is supposed to be a subscription type thing so you can use if needed so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I had the opportunity to try it in a Trainz Dev test build. I will say it's quite good and has a lot of potential for those who are involved in collaborative route projects. Our test was restricted to built-ins, but eventually the MPS will support assets on the DLS.

Likewise I've tried it on the Trainzdev build as John says it looks to be subscription just for the multiplayer otherwise life goes on as normal.
It works IMO okish for an early test, however not my thing so am not likely to ever use it.

Hi,

I hope I don't come out sounding harsh, cuz if we were setting at a dinner, this would just sound like a normal conversation between two guys, so I hope you feel the same!

What's the forum? It's a social media platform -- In here we discuss, share ideas, help each other, guide one another ... and back in the days when we had forum chat, where anyone registered could just jump in for great conversations ... Furthermore, we have our disagreements, our opinion's, we express facts, and fiction ... the list is long. And you know what brings it all together, Trainz!

And not just trainz, as we know the sim to be, it can also be a platform for other type of sims, example: Airplane ... Ian, "Vulcan" ... my teacher and friend, and super super master builder have created countless of detail airplanes; And he only stays inside the airplane thread along with pascal, nzd, and Rob ... These four guys socialized daily, and share ideas, but they never ever leave the nest ... my point is, trainz has a little bit of everything for everybody -- TGV groups, boat groups, etc ... and Me, Don, and Butler we, sometimes, live on Marsz ... Right now I'm between words! LOL ...:hehe:

I get you, sir, and many others who are in your boat ... just like working alone! And just hop into these forums to throw a few cents here and there ... And believe me, there's nothing wrong with that --- But that is social media! Thanks to Trainz!

Now, generally speaking to the masses, who's the say that multiplayer surveyor won't be fun -- I guess I put it like this ... if you have established a close internet friend here in these forums, then those folks just might give it a try, and I, personally, thanks Tony and accompany to providing such tools --- better to have them then not to have them!

Take care all --

Ish
