... ... ... Or Lea and Perrin's Worcestershire.
Your servers have been quite unreliable in the past (I'm with Trainz since...2001?) and at least here from germany they were also not really fast with a high ping-value... this hasn't really changed over the years. It would be so much better to offer dedicated servers for multiplayer options (see first sentence), but i guess this will never happen...
We are in the process of updating the DLS servers - with the increased usage this year we're hitting the server limits more often (even though increased usage would come as a shock to those who think our userbase is shrinking). It should be sorted out next week.
How often did i see such an announcement in the past years? Remembers me of Groundhog Day...Posted in this thread Feb 12th.
I don't profess to know the answer/s, but one thing is crystal clear to me, and I assume everyone else with an ounce of a brain, is that N3V need to continue to generate a constant income stream to keep their doors open.
....
Now does Tane 1 still need some work done on it, of-course it does!!! In the meantime, are hot-fixes and service packs going to pay the bills. Nope!!!
As for what's next, I'm just taking a wait and see attitude...
Several years ago I stated that Trainz will someday all be Payware ... That time may be coming sooner than we thought

And, who's to say that such charges could not be affordable?
What is "affordable" to some, is not necessarily "affordable" to others.
That's everyday life!!!
Ish
My sympathies if even 50p is a major expense. By that reasoning, every pastime should be free because some people can't afford them. Or should we go to an ability-to-pay basis? Say an x% of your income?...well when you ain't even got 50p to call your own, it's a bloody big deal...
Why is subscription-based a lousy deal? Without knowing the exact cost breakdown, it might even be less expensive than having to pay a large upfront cost. If you later decide that it was not what you wanted, you would be out a large amount whereas on a subscription it might only be a small amount.
As for the lack of Internet connection, if that is a personal choice rather than no Internet at all at the location, then it's not a consideration in the equation.
