but install did not succeed and I have following error message : error: missing parameters

can somebody help me to solve my problem.

Can I ask why you are downloading the Trainz Mesh Importer? Most of the time, this is only needed by certain tools, which should already have a copy of it already.

TrainzMeshImporter (TMI) processes XML files produced by the Blender 3D modelling tool exporter. The two work together and TrainzMeshImporter.exe must be located in the same folder as the Blender exporter. 3DS Max uses a different importer and I don't know about GMax. TMI can process any xml files produced by 3D modelling programs providing the right format is used.

Basically, if you are not creating indexed mesh models then you don't need it for Trainz. TrainzMeshImporter is provided by N3V in zip format so all you need to do is unzip it. There is no installation process.

Perhaps you could tell us what you intend to use it for and then we might be able to help.

Gmax as its own trainz content creation studio gamepack designed just for trains as it exports to either .im, .pm, and .kin

Hello,

I'm trying to use PEVSoft QuickShadows to repair some old assets where shadow files are missing but at the end of the process I have an error message :

***TrainzMeshImporter FAILED**

so I'm trying to fing origin of the error

Who knows ?

thanks for your help

best regards

Hi Jean-François,

If you are using Windows Vista or higher, it is recommended that you run the PEV utilities as administrator. This may solve the problem you are having.

John

That error can also result if the original mesh is corrupt (I should know as I'm the one who hosts the PEVsoft tools). Might be worth trying it on another asset.

Content tutorials

Hi Shane, do you have a tutorial for 3dmax users? I have only ever come across jet exporters for the program, but not importers. I can understand that peoples hard work can be ripped off from that, but what I am looking for is a very base tutorial for 3dmax users, explaining what tools are needed, and if possible a very basic object, on how, that can be placed into the trainz world. I hope you can point me in the right direction. Thanks

I don't specifically have one, but I believe paulhobbs had one, although it's not the easiest to find. Try entering 'trainz blender tutorial' into Google. Regarding exporters/importers, there are only exporters into the Trainz format, as .pm/.im files are not designed to be reimported into a 3D program (and quite often cannot anyway).

The importer we are talking about is the software that accepts a specially formatted XML file and creates the .im file that Trainz uses. It does not allow you to take a trainz mesh and import it back into Blender or 3dmax. Blender has an exporter that exports the specially formatted XML file that the N3V importer then converts into a .im file. There are some sound technical reasons for using the xml file as an intermediate, basically it ensures the .im file isn't corrupted in any way.

Cheerio John
