Trainz LMS Coronation Scot

I know tmz06003 is on a sabbatical at present, but I think one of his 55s is going to make the best DP1. It would however, need the headlight added for it to be a true representation. The built-in ones lack the detail to be a truly acceptable asset for today's standard.

As I said though, the dimensions of the production shell isn't right for DP1, DP1 was a little taller and the nose shape is slightly different (iirc, the cab windows are more raked on DP1). Basically, if we're going to be picky enough about needing the fake-headlamp fixture, then none of the production models are going to look 'right enough'.

The production deltic models would make fine base models for DP2 though, of course (DP2 was of course a production deltic bodyshell with class 50 internals), but in one sense, the builtins would make more sense (DP2 lost the angled twin exhaust vents in favour of the exhaust slot that the inaccurate built-in deltics had.

My argument is that the built ins are now way past their sell by. They just don't measure up to current Trainz standards.

By the way, did you contact the helpdesk about the Duchess? You should, it's well worth the splosh!

That's what I thought but forgot to add to my post!

@stationmistress

Thanks for the offer and please do an repaint (but only if you want to!). If you need any photo scanned, please let me know and I will try to PM you some pictures.Regards.

Thanks for the offer of the photos but I've found plenty from all angles already on the web in what looks like three colours, photographic grey, blue and lilac (which has to be the film used).

If people can forgive the lack of a single headlamp, then an reskin in the colours could suffice.

Perhaps manipulating an original skin would work as far as windows go. I'll have to have a go.

If you'd rather have tmz6003 rework one of his 55's, I fully understand.

Stationmistress, my point is that the built-in 55s have been around for ages. They seriously lack the quality of current assets and don't really lend themselves to good reskinning. What you should look to do is download GIMP or Paint.NET, both of which are free, and both of which are fairly easy to learn and will give you far better results.

If you're going to go down the reskinning route, it's really important that you need to start off with a good base asset. It's clear from your attempts to reskin in paintshed, that you have a good talent. To develop that further, I would strongly advise the move to more versatile image manipulation software as I mentioned above.

You will find that peope here will give you tonnes of help and also point you in the right direction when you're stuck. I started in exactly the same way. It will also please the rivet counters far more...

lilac (which has to be the film used).

Is that a photo (or photos) of it at the Science Museum circa 1970s/1980s?

If so I have a very strong feeling that it might have been the lighting it was under. I saw DP1 the first time in 1979, I believe it was, and didn't see it again until it was moved to the NRM in '93.

When I did, I was surprised by the colour, I recalled a much more lilac/purple DP1, and was shocked by the powder blue. But everything I've read backs up that the colour it is now is the colour it always has been.

I had put my remembering it as lilac down to faulty memory, but if there are photos that show that colour cast too, it might have been the way the locomotive was presented.

By the way, did you contact the helpdesk about the Duchess? You should, it's well worth the splosh!

Nope, I was kind of put off a little by the whole affair. As it is, he-who-must-be-obeyed is more insistant that I'd be better off waiting on the Duchess, and buying the Coronation now. (And given that I want to convince him to let me buy more camera related stuff, I'm not going to argue about the order of purchasing DLC... :)

The following links show the differing shades of DP1. The first one is outdoors, 1959 in 'lilac'.

@pfx. I have gimp, Paintshop Pro and the way I do the Paintshed is make new masks for all my re-skins where possible.

Hi

The first photograph (lilac) is obviously a hand tinted black and white shot so the colour should be taken with a pinch of salt.
