Let's hope it's as good as the excellent updated Duchess package!

Not exactly new, more like a rework of the Duchess, but still a welcome addition.

I still say I'd like to see the semi-streamlined variant too.

As for the newletter and this announcement, it was enough to actually convince me to go buy the duchess at 20% off when I received the email this morning... only to discover that the offer had expired before the email was sent.

Pretty poor form, and that put me off, I'll wait til it's on offer again.

They were thinking 'it will probably go faster if it's steamlined'.

They need to check their geography as they state the LNER on the East coast mainline as being in the west and the LMS on the West coast mainline being in the east !!!

What were they thinking?

They were thinking about the loss of passengers and profit to rivals LNER with their 100mph+ streamlined Silver Jubilee service on the East coast line.

They didn't think about the depot staff who had to maintain the locos (usually in the middle of the night) what they thought about access for maintenence though!

All about publicity and the LMS / LNER rivalry....

According to O.S. Nock* the LNER ran wind tunnel tests on A4 and A4 Pacific locos of roughly the same size and power output as the LMS's Pacifics and and found a saving of 40hp at 60mph and 138hp at 90mph.

The world speed record for steam locomotives is held by streamlined loco (LNER 4468), presumably both companies felt that the higher maintenance costs caused by covering in the valve gear was a small price to pay for the extra publicity gained by running streamlined locos.

However, the record for sustained high speed running is held by the non-streamlined GWR "Castle" class 5006 "Tregenna Castle" which averaged over 80mph start to stop between Swindon and Paddington in 1932.

I have never paid for any add ons before I got Duchess & Blue Comet, but they were bundled with Anniversary of course.
As a rule I generally dont purchase add ons.
I think I will make an exception for this one based on the abovementioned add ons quality.
What I really do enjoy are the comments from those who actually have experience with these, (either the steamer itself or
the knowledge of modelling same), or are native to its region.

There's supposed to be a download link for the upgrade in Order History? All I found was a link to the original Duchess download, nothing about an upgrade anywhere. Downloaded Duchess package again and can't see any new content.

That's the download link you need - the original. Run the .exe file again and your Duchess will be updated.
