Trainz is going mulitplayer? Awesome! But I have one concern...

I'm hoping that they give us a second choice to connect to the servers other than just the iTrainz network. I started with TR2006 and tried to use the iPortals with friends, but it was down more than it was up. We finally just gave up on using them.

I'm with krogen here.

I bypassed '06, went to '09 and then on to '10. With the latest patches it's the best yet.

And, surely, if Auran introduces something new you just have gotta expect that it will be built on their latest platform?

My only disagreement is that I think that the Multiplayer beta should be freely available as a time-limited release to all comers, not just those with TS2010, maybe with the tag "You have to try this .. ". But I guess that's been an Auran commercial decision either to reward existing owners or to encourage the take up of '10.

Phil

Hello All,

I've been out of the trainz scene for nearly a year, but I'll be honest here, in that Trainz Multi player got me a bit interested, especially since I voiced my suggestion for it years ago!

With that said, i totally agreed with Phil in that it should have been universally available or at least for those with Tr09 - I didn't get TrS10 because, truthfully, I didn't see any big different between that version and the previous, which I have. Still, I'll keep an eye out and ask those who beta-test it to see how it went.

I just want to wish Auran good luck, and I hope it works very well! Maybe then I get back and start creating contents once again!

Happy Holidays Everyone!
Ish

Hey Ish, Merry Christmas to you too! I'm not at all interested in multiplayer, but that's just because I don't have any friends...

Thanks for your concern Dean, but it's no bother really, just a little reading and then a little writing...

Euphod, I would be your friend :).

I'm excited to see how this would play out.. and I'm glad Auran took the jump! I hope they do fix up the situation thou ;).

It's simple in my eyes, take a HUGE HUGE Route and allow Trains to just form.. Allow people use MICS..

Maybe even add a dispatcher ;) - A person who would have the WHOLE map infront of you and could click a specific train. However, each map would me limited to about 20-30 people.

The only main concern is that someone will blow my doors off (driven by Bry11) and crash into another train (driven by Amtrakid17) and then a giant explosion and then I derail and get mad.

Also: What will they do?! There are millions of different databases to try to interconnect over the Internet! Holy crap. I'm sure glad I'm not at N3V games right now.

I do have some suggestions:
- Perhaps there should be a session system. You start up your session of online multiplayer gaming and there is a database check and log that reports to you your gaming time, trains used, people who were online, friend requests, contacts, all that good stuff.

- Dynamic Database filter. When you start a session, it should filter everyones database to find the assets (traincar and dependencies only). Any asset not installed by all online users in a room will be disabled for the session. If it's a dependency, then the dependent asset shall be disabled.

- Rooms. Like most online games, perhaps this one should be setup in rooms. You can select ones by region, location, line, and whatnot. I suppose they should let you toggle a new set of rooms user created... a search feature please.

The only problem is the filter could take a while. Perhaps a suggestion for the new version of CMP? An additional filter?

I don't know, but I don't want to see a derailment either way.

Cheers,
Joshua

Brian's the one crashing into you... but you will be speeding for you shall, since I'm saying so, drop your raildriver and the cup of hot coffee will poor one your lap and you will curse, and the throttle will notch to full speed. You will reach down to get it, bounce your head off of your desktop and fall on your back. You will look up at your screen in horror as you see you are hitting 87mph and as Brian flies around the corner (with me on the inside drink a refreshing Coke) and hit you, exploding your P42DC into nothing more than a toasted prime mover.

Have a good day Austin! :hehe:

Cheers,
Joshua

Hello Ed,

Happy Holidays to you, sir and your family!!!
And you do have friends, even if you never met them face to face, sir -- I am one of them!!!!

Ishie

PS. I've read your post on the reason why Auran is finally attacking the multi player option, and I agreed all heartedly with your statement! It 's about the economics! I just hope they, at least, get it right! We all know they need a boost, so hopefully it doesn't blind them from doing a great work on the "trainz online"!

don't worry be happy

Euphod in this forgotten world anyway who wants friends its like always you have money you friends, your are famous you have friends, your interesting you have them too.
Once you need them it's a call like Far Cry out in the desert you won/t see them. If lucky in life you have one good friend more than enough all the rest is aquaitance. that is my experience over the years. No offense to anyone as this forum is many times filled with short tempered or different attitudes and mods crowding the place like comedy caper cops. Sometimes funny many times not at all.
Yes Multiplayer should be an open connection concerning servers and make procedures to assure 100% compatibility before one gets hooked up in a session it is not that difficult. One can make it difficult like to many times right?
To end with Euphod my best friend is a muntjac deer who lives with us in the house and gices all the love and affection and friendship one can wish far 24/7. Yes we have a big house here in Thailand NE at the foot of the Phu Pan mountains far from the bad world our little world and Trainz haha.

Ya'll have a real nice trainz(ipad,MP) day

warmest regards
Roy;)

To me. I think a route for passenger trains going from station to station sounds perfect for mutiplayer.

Why not have a lobby where players can view the rooms to play in. When they single click or highlighted on the room they want to join. Have some sort of information on the route and show the stuff the room is using. Then use a program to check if you have those things and if not download them. Or try to "stream" them to the PC while the clients are downloading them.

Im no multiplayer expert. Just an idea that might or might not work.
