Trainz is going mulitplayer? Awesome! But I have one concern...

It'd be nice to see a multiplayer Surveyor option; enabling more than one person to work on a large project at the same time. I'm doubtful that will be included though.

That said, I'd rather NV3 made some more complete content packs, or perhaps outsourcing to get a route, stock, and scenarios that are of a 2010 standard. Rather than just a single loco and carriages, a route with nice high res textures and such also. And fix 2010's bugs. I'd love to be able to purchase an official Trainz product that actually looks and feels modern. The disorganised mess we have now feels like we're still in 2006.

I have a feeling multiplayer will just create a big new world of bugs more than anything else.

I can imagine the surveyor working together idea would be difficult because of saving, would both people save it and to their own computer or what?

Mulitplayer

Well start saving your money i'm sure it will cost. And don't complain i'm sure they'r doing the best they can with what they got.

G'day!

I just heard the news! Trainz is going multiplayer!:clap:But I have one concern. Multiplayer function is only in Trainz 2010... :( Now I've tried TS2010, it was riddled with bugs for me. Running TS2009 is hard enough. Would Auran be able to add this Multiplayer function as a patch or something for TS2009 users? But apart from that, AWESOME WORK AURAN!  :D  :Y:

I use 10 all teh time with no porblems,, but i also have to do with your computer set up,,,,

Extremely great, but is it real?

How exactly would you drive in multiplayer? I presume it would be best for those who tire of setting up Automatic Drivers who don't even work well (like me). I'm worried that it might also be quite dreadful if you play multiplayer and someone loses control of a train behind you by losing internet connection briefly (crash! :hehe: ).
Curiously Magnificent,
Eric :)

Well, that would be real interesting, but it would need a dedicated server setup to let more people work on a single route. Managing something like that on a windows system would be very involved and surely quite expensive.

As for driver mode, I'm not that interested. It certainly would create big securety issues on any local computer as most multiplayer internet based game devellopers can confirm.
I allways devellop a smile when statements are made you can play with people all around the world. It would mean to give up your day job for some, since it will be night if you wanna keep up the roster.:hehe:

All in all I agree with you. I would rather see all/most bugs fixed first. In the ts2010 section here I see still too many people asking how to get their version behaving as it should to my taste.

Greetings from cold Amsterdam,

Jan

I'm anxious to see it. If it comes out as announced it would allow a number of people to run a railroad network they have cooperatively built and operate it prototypically without brain damaged AI ... the possibility of this kind of cyber model railroad club is intriguing.

Bernie
What about brain damaged humans, Like have you checked out some of my driving. :hehe: Anyway great news.
And for all the nay sayers, chair up

Is Multiplayer really what we need?

How about fixing the current issues, upgrading the graphics and make some more useful tools for route building before you go down the Multiplayer track? (sorry the pun...)

I wish Neverfail would spend some time on polish and tuning istead of insisting on releasing new versions every year. Versions that in many cases acctually have been updates. Their business strategy is a real mystery to me, apart from them wanting to force us to by new versions as often as possible.

I've put Trainz on the shelf for the time beeing and tried Railworks instead, and sure it got some issues but it has got a way more modern feel in many aspects. Trainz tends to feel like a 1999 product in a 2010 costume that really itches.

I guess best thing would be if they joined their forces and created RailTrainz :).

As far as I concern, I will not upload to the DLS any kind of content "just" to allow people to play multiplayer. Multiplayer should be allowed to be played with 3rd party content as well.

This is a very wicked way to call people to upload again to the DLS after the disgusting decision of Auran to discontinue all pre-2009 content.

My apologies to the Portuguese and Spanish trainz communities, but DO NOT COUNT ON MY STUFF FOR MULTIPLAYER as long as it requires uploading assets to the DLS.

Agree !!!!!!!!

Hope this "only DLS content" will be only in the beta version, and the final product will allow to play it on any route. If not, this will be a completely mistake. The real good content for Trainz is usually on 3rd party sites, why the hell should we stick to just built in and DLS content and enjoy a "limited" multilplayer game?. We can use iportals with any content and we will not be able to use a multiplayer game with the same options? This must be a joke....

Simply put, this is our most reliable way of making sure that everybody has exactly the same version of the content. We know it's already problematic for users to source content from third-party sites, and with multiplayer's requirement for the content to be 100% exactly present and identical on all machines, we don't feel that it's suitable for our end-users to have to take care of this manually.

In short, we'd rather reduce the amount of available content in multiplayer than give our users a poor multiplayer experience where each game that they try to join gives errors due to missing or modified content.

Gotta agree with that decision. "The real good content for Trainz is usually on 3rd party sites", most of the 3rd party sites I've tried;

http://forums.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?292732-List-of-Trainz-Add-On-sites

Require some type of "google the KUID" to get stuff working - some even say "see the forums (unspecified WHICH forum or which thread) for list of required KUIDs". All too often I get those things that "everyone knows" you're supposed to download the K-36 for the whistle and one of the C-41s for the cabview or the 0-6-0 won't work.

I get the feeling that once the fat lady is finished with her song, 3rd party sites will be the only place where content will be available. Would like to buy a NEW version of Trainz, with all NEW content, multi player sounds good, but not with 3 new Routes and 3 new locos and a bunch of rolling stock and scenery ported from 06.

I'm pretty sure that most of the people were thinking about playing their routes online when the news about an multiplayer Trainz where posted. Now you are telling us that we will just be able to enjoy it with the very few routes that are using only DLS content. It will be 100% realiable, but not even 10% enjoyable I'm afraid....

now,now... i seen other software co.stop selling software. what about microsoft,,, they al most put out a new os every other year, i hear nobody
cring about that.. and they are all ways putting out patches every month for there os....
some times a co. has to kill older software to go forward....... that does not mean you can't use there old software....

Actually, I believe that as long as a route is uploaded to the dls with all-dls content than it can be played - remember, we still have a month to try and persuade non-dls uploaders to upload at least some of their content (which is already free) so that we can play their routes online.
Eric :)

To me, the only reason why some content creators do not want to upload to the DLS is they don't want to lose power over there content.

They seem to think, that having a website and uploading your content there is going to get them something or give them power. Its not going to, if they want there content used. Then upload it to the DLS, if you don't then just upload it someplace and or don't even bother sharing it.

JRT

I call to all 3D designers for Trainz do not upload any content unless Auran change the rules towrds to a better game, a real multiplayer game with the third-party objects.
Those third-party objects should be mantain with its owners "trademark".

I think it is ok that we should play in multiplayer mode with 2009 or even 2010 with a patch that turn multiplayer modo possible.

Other way is DLS getting poor and poor everyday.
