Trainz Downloader Pro problems

Hi all,

Since March 1 I've been unable to download anything via Trains Downloader Pro. Clicking on Add to Queue brings up the Checking Dependencies message box and at that point nothing further happens. This might be related to the problem another user in this forum reported about being unable to download using CMP. Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,
Lamont

IDK what DLP is ?
But why aren't you using CMP or the Download Station (black pages) ?
Are you DLing something from a Web site ?
Answering these question might help you get an answer.

Danny,
Trainz Dowloader Pro is a program to download content from the Dls. It was first introduced in TRS2004 timeframe. Before Cmp.
Lamont I have not used DLP for a long time. I do know at one point there were some changes made on the part of Auran(now N3V) that made using DLP harder. But that was a couple of years ago.

I don't use CMP because
1) I don't connect my Trainz PC to the Internet for any reason whatsoever (too many vandals and criminals on the Internet) and
2) Installing Trainz just for downloads on the small laptop I use for all Internet access would more than fill up the small hard drive it possesses.

Downloader Pro enables me to do my Trainz downloading, including all dependencies, on any PC connected to the internet and transfer the .cdp files to my Trainz PC. It has worked well until the start of this month. Has something at the Download Station changed?

Downloader Pro is now obsolete software as it's creator has not updated it in a while, and as a result is no longer fully compatible with the Download Station.

Regarding CMP and internet access, that's what a firewall and antivirus software is for.

That doomsday warning has been around for a couple years now, and my copy of DLP has continued to work without problems in spite of it. So what changed _last week_? As for the smug response about firewall and antivirus software, it only takes one zero-day attack to wipe out a machine. Even with backups this can require a great deal of time to reload and rebuild.

To put it in more general terms, I use three pieces of software that require Internet access: a browser, an FTP client, and antivirus software. If I purchase any other piece of software that turns out to require Internet access it is either returned for a refund or goes into the dustbin. Anti-virus software does not alleviate the intrusive and privacy-destroying practices that many "big-name" software packages include as "features."

If the DLS has finally reached the point where it requires CMP to use, I'll be abandoning it and using 3rd party-sites for any future downloading. (And that will be the last version of Trainz that I ever "upgrade" to).

The DLS has always undergone changes to improve it - it may be that DLP is not using the right FTP details - check it's settings.

Shane

P.S. Zero-day attacks will always happen - best way of avoiding them is to keep your software and Windows up to date.
