It is our hope and desire that the people who are interested in seeing things improve from where they were at a decade ago will jump on board and support T:ANE so that we can continue to improve things way beyond where they have ever been before and beyond the competition as well.
I'm afraid Herlev that anecdotal evidence can be outweighed by the facts - actually, TS12 is BY FAR the best selling PC version of Trainz ever (perhaps in part because it has not been superceded by a new version since release in April 2011) and Trainz Driver 1 has had well over 1.5 million downloads making it the most popular version of Trainz overall.
Rather than jumping in to answer some of the other points raised here in more detail, I will refrain until our full response is posted (hopefully tomorrow, but there are other priorities such as ensuring the smooth release of the best possible new version of Trainz).
I will make the single point that one reason we are so focused on the New Era of Trainz is that we know our past products are past their best. If people want to cling to 2004/6 or whatever, they are welcome to do so. Those products work and there are alternatives to the DLS. It is our hope and desire that the people who are interested in seeing things improve from where they were at a decade ago will jump on board and support T:ANE so that we can continue to improve things way beyond where they have ever been before and beyond the competition as well.
But is it the most used?....actually, TS12 is BY FAR the best selling PC version of Trainz ever
But is it the most used?
That's the question.
From what I've read from many people, after installing SP1, it all becomes too much bother to use.
My guess would be that both TS10 and the base version of TS12 are probably the most used versions, both of which you are cutting off support for.
I may buy TS12 tomorrow, but I've already been convinced, from several well-respected members of this community, that SP1 is a no-go.
I'm actually still not convinced that TS12 is worth getting for the base version, so if any users have any advice on whether I should get it, or just stick with TS10, it would be most grateful.
Brian.
If they reverse their decision to drop support below 3.7.....
I think you are being influenced by a noisy minority rather than the silent majority. TS12 SP1 HF4 works just fine for me. I have a clean install (no DLC) for testing my assets and a "play" install with DLC. I went through the difficulties of updating both. Yes, it was problematic.
I liked TS06, TS09 and TS10 but if something new and improved comes along then I will use it. That includes T:ANE. All through the alpha and beta testing I have only ever had fairly minor problems. But I did update my PC for T:ANE and I followed the instructions for installation. Sometimes I think some totally ignore that and then bitch that it doesn't work.
I think I mistakenly thought that SP1 was the problem update. If you do buy it on Steam you can also choose to stick to SP1.

So ... Go run your silly little train sim, route with trainz-build 4.1 ... That's no reason to ruin a game for lower users ... This is just plain an extremely "Bad Business" practice for N3V, and future sales may reflect this, and may even cause N3V to go bankrupt. This is nothing short of sabotaging lower trainz-builds ... physically forcing people to buy a new game. What for, i wish to run a good looking TS in at least 4.1 build

2. Where are the N3V sanctioned/produced TS-12, SP 1 and TANE Content Creation Bibles? The response to most folks who ask for insructions on content creation for Build 3.7 or TANE is that there is an old content creation Wiki out there but it is out of date/obsolete. Why would you impose a new "standard" without fully documenting what that new standard requires? It makes no sense.
3. When using Google to look for content creation information, I found a few Forum threads that had been started and apparently abandoned, most stoping back in December. One provided a link to a Procedural Track (to TANE content creation, I assume, since that was the topic of the thread) at this location:
https://anewera.centercode.com/project/forum/thread.html?cap=bbeb19fa3f8a4f6a91c87b4550461480&forid={37380912-6e5d-42b7-9efc-84886aaa06ee}&topid={0381792F-C294-47C0-84A7-5DAB80B5D1B0}
This site is apparently only available to Beta testers.
5. If I were a content creator I would never put my creations on the DLS. N3V has shown a total lack of resepect or consideration for the dwindling number of remaining freeware content creators without whom N3V will soon be out of business.
Hello cascaderailroad
I appreciated your opinion
It seems that i must explain a little more.
You said:'' This is nothing short of sabotaging lower trainz-builds''. I think that TANE has nothing with this. A lower versions works without problem.
You said:''That's no reason to ruin a game for lower users''. TANE is new release and have nothing to do with lower versions.
You said:''Go run your silly little train sim, route with trainz-build 4.1'', Yes it's my wish to run a good looking TS some days in the future, when enough assets build 3.7 or 4.1 will be available.
regards
