I need to say that I love Trainz, but enough is enough. I as well as a lot of other enthusiast have purchased new copies of Trainz's as they are released hoping to get vast improvements. It seems as soon as you buy a new version and get set in here comes another version and there is no deal for existing users. I believe 10 should have been updated or at least a cost break given to those that purchased 10 in lue of an update. I am not angry or upset, I just don't think Auran gives any credit to loyal customers.
jrsykes,
Sir, you raise a valid point, and its great to see that your post is in the "I love Trainz" vogue, rather than a "knockers mode" As I understand things,
(& I'm no expert on the matter) N3V employs 13+ people
(approx)...
Know I was in business for 27 years and have some idea about business costs/expenses, so if I had to take a "wild guest" at N3V weekly costs to staying in business, I'd say it would probably be in the $15,000A to $25,000A range...
Now anyone with an ounce of common sense would realize that N3V has to sell a hell of a lot of "sims/games/products/services, etc, just cover their weekly expenses, let alone make a profit...
Hopefully now it will become a bit more clearer as to why N3V has to bring out a new version of Trainz every 12 to 18 months. It's quite simple really; & as my 11 year old nephew recently said to me!!!
"It's probably the only way they are going to be able to stay in business"
As we all know, N3V doesn't make any money from "updates, service packs, patches", etc.
So the only way N3V can and will stay in business and continue to develope the Trainz franchise is if the majority of the Trainz community get in behind them and support them and purchase their products.
(hey, things might not be perfect, but I can assure you they are a hell of a lot better than over the other side of the fence). I know, because I recently spent a few weeks looking at what else is out there in the way of trains sims, and apart from a bit of "eye candy" Trainz is (IMHO) still streaks ahead of any other train sim out there !!!
What a lot of the Trainz community doesn't understand is "the community need N3V more than N3V need us" Again, simple really; N3V sells a lot of other "top selling, game titles" so if the community stopped buying Trainz, they would probably just close down the "Trainz division"
(and up to ten people would be probably be out of work). N3V as a company would survive, and who knows, may flourish better under a reduced leaner business model... Hey, maybe even more profit for the shareholders !!!
At the end of the day, the only way Trainz is going to survive long term is if the majority of the community get in behind N3V and regularly purchase their new products/products. The owners/shareholders of N3V aren't really interested in you or I. They are ONLY interested in "PROFIT" - getting a return on the millions of dollars they have invested in N3V.
(Hey, if I was a shareholder in N3V, thats the exact way I would feel as well)...
So rather than having to go through reading all the regular "I hate this" or "I hate that" or "THIS IS NOT RIGHT" or "I WANTED THIS" when N3V launches a new version, it would be great to read that if there is any problems/bugs,
(and there will be) people would just post their views (& opinions) in a civilized manner that won't p_ss the majority of us off, and deter newbies
(& us old hands) from buying the latest version...
Hey, I've had my rant "fix" for the evening. :hehe:
(happy trainzing)...
Cheers, Mac...
