Trainz 2010 EE - Keyboard does not respond while driving

Hi,

I recently purchased Trainz 2010 EE from the online store Impulse. Anyways the program installs without a hitch and everything loads correctly. However when I go to drive the train (even on an external view of the train) the keyboard does not seem to respond to any input. For example I cannot blow the horn by pressing 'H', I cannot increase the throttle by pressing 'W', 'KP9', 'KPPGUP'. I am able to perform all of these tasks using the mouse, however it would be much more convenient to use the keyboard at times. However, if I load up Surveyor the keyboard seems to respond (e.g. The arrow keys move / rotate the camera as expected). I have installed this on 2 different machines (Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows XP 32-bit) and both seem to have the same issues. Is there something I am doing wrong, is this a problem other people have encountered? One last note of interest is that the game is using build 43361. I see on the forums that there is a newer version of the software, but no update from 43361. Thanks for any help you could provide.

Welcome to Trainz.

This is very unlikely but check to see if your drivers for your keyboard are up to date. If that doesn't solve the issue head into your bin folder and run TrainzDiag and see if you pass [usually found under .../Auran/TS2010/bin].

Also might be a good idea to update. A quick search turns up these threads; this one in paticular stating this:

From memory I think build 43361 is the "Steam" version and at the moment there is no patch for this. You will have to wait until Steam issue one.
Quote from itareus.

If this is Steam download, I see you got it from Impulse (which seems to havea connection with Steam, at least from what I turn up), and you will have to wait from their patch.

Hope this helps!

I have checked my keyboard drivers. They are up to date. I ran the Trainz diagnostic tool, and everything passed. In fact I installed this on a fresh Windows Vista installation (with updated drivers of course) and the problem has persisted. Also my keyboard is not wireless. I also borrowed a different keyboard from work and tried using that, but it did not work either.

I beginning to think it's more and more likely that it is a problem with the Impulse version of the program. I have checked their forums but have had no luck yet.

I have 2009, but 2010 should be similar. Open your TRAINZ 2010 folder. Look for a settings folder. Open the setting folder and look for a file named keyboard.txt. That is were the all the keyboard commands live. If you do not have the keyboard.txt file, you need to get one.

There is no keyboard.txt file in the Trainz folder (or subfolders). Does anyone who has Trainz 2010 EE have this file in their folder/subfolder? If so, where could I get a copy of it? And specifically which folder does it live in (My trainz directory is "C:\Program Files\N3V Games\Trainz Simulator 2010 - Engineers Edition")? Thanks

Do you have a settings folder. That is where it should be (in 09). If 2010 is different, could a 2010 user please let us know. smcintyr: If you do not get a response here, post in the 2010 forum. Just copy and paste this post. Your keyboard commands will work once you get the keyboard.txt file into the correct 2010 folder.

I have checked and there is no settings folder in the Trainz directory. I will post in Trainz 2010 to see if anyone there has this file.

On a slightly different note, watch out if you have the Bing toolbar (Bing Bar) installed - this messes about with the keyboard commands as well, and should be removed if present.

I have exactly the same problem. The keyboard doesn't respond... "keyboard.txt" file is missing. Where can I get a copy of this file?

Normally, either from reinstalling, or from someone who has the same version (and preferably build number) of Trainz as you.

Sorry, I should have added more clarity.

I have the Trainz 2010 Engineers Edition, same as the OP, and bought it through Impulse, same again as the OP. So re-install does not help.

OK, you only have option 2 then - seeing if anyone else is willing to send you a copy of their keyboard.txt file (unfortunately, I cannot help, as my version is TS2009, not TS2010)

So no one who has 2010 EE is willing to share a keyboard.txt with me?

I think your original post dropped off the first page of this forum. Some one with 2010EE should notice your repost and help you. Posting your problem in the 2010 Forum would probably result in a much quicker response.
