Trainz 2009 FUBAR

This place gets worse by the day.

I rarely agree with Ed (I rarely understand what the hell he's talking about :p ), but he hit the nail on the head.

People are allowed to be disappointed with TS2009, and are allowed to air that disappointment here on the forums, just as those who love it are allowed to sing it's praises.

What amazes me is the amount of people here who are outraged by someone forcing a poor opinion of their favourite game onto them, who then proceed to force their joyful opinion of the game onto them.

A quick glance at the yay-sayers in this thread shows at least 2 people who were spitting fire about previous releases of Trainz because they didn't work as well as they'd hoped.
You'd think they'd have a better understanding of "being disappointed" with the game, and that they'd refrain from joining the mob mentality.

And now we have the "yay-sayers" asking for the thread to be closed down.
Why?
If people have a genuine complaint about the game, or even just some concerns, founded or not, then they have a right to say so, and a right for the thread to live long enough for actual Auran staff to read it.
Market research is very expensive, and this free source of customer feedback should not be hidden away just because others are happy with the game, and I would hope that Auran have learnt these very same lessons from the past.

Let's see if the Mods agree.

Personally, I think of it this way.
Blindly applauding a product because it works for you, without considering that there might be flaws in the code that need to be fixed for other combinations of hardware, will probably reflect positively on sales figures.

Pointing out a programs faults, regardless of how unpopular it might be, will probably result in better future versions.

So ironically, the people you are knocking in this thread are the sort of people that made the game work so well on your computer in the first place, and you should at least be thanking them.

Smiley.

I guess you missed the whole point of flybynight's complaint. He was whining that there wasn't more new content in 2009 WBE. I would not consider that a genuine complaint. It seems that everyone except him, knew what was coming and he's crying that he was conned. He wasn't conned, he's clueless and blaming his lack to reading, that the rest of us did, on Auran. He's a waste of good air.

Here's the "it."

This specific complaint has come up before.
Over time, the same complaint (not just this one) is going to have the same effect as repeating the same joke.
The joke is funny the first time.
The 10th time, it gets annoying.
By the 20th time, someone is going to want to slap the current joker.
Hit the 25th time, the current joker gets slapped.
And when 30 shows up, that joker gets punched.
It is a normal human reaction for people to get annoyed at the same thing when hearing it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
Rare is the comment/item/whatever that can last long.
This is true in a LOT of places.

Yours and Anthony's comments are having that effect.
I think the meter is at 24th time.

Besides, you have a replace tool in Surveyor.
Pick a route, put the track and the new track in the replace tool, hit a button and WHAMMO, all the track gets replaced.
Do the same with a tree (though not in a winter scene).
And for the texture (though it will look odd to replace something like snow with Gravel With Puddles).
Replace a station manually due to different sizes.
Then save and you have your route with new content.
what does the million overs have to do with more content in trainz 09........

thanks for actually making a point dan........this forum started talkin about trainz 2009 content ... then left with people talking about others' ideas

I think that Trainz 2009 has not lived up to what it had said it would have. The beta was good, and there was more content on it than the game, just some things on the beta would not work.So i think that the beta version should be used as the real thing or its just useless. If something does not happen soon, I might as well play Rail Simulator or Densha De Go(Japanese Console Train Game) and never endorse Trainz at all.

Yours in disrepute,
Ticky Tacky.:n:
I'm sorry, I know I've had a few gripes, but come on, can everybody just gripe about 09 a little more?! If you don't like it, hereis your options, 1.live with it. 2.leave it. Point Blank, take it or leave it. And if you want to hate it, setup an "Anti-Trainz" group. God, I'm getting bored with this forum, someones always whining about how much TRS09 sucks. Who cares, if you feel you've been ripped off, go whine to your mommy.
I thought this community was for people who love Trainz.

No, this forum is for everyone who has bought and registered a Trainz version. This ain't no "Country Western" song...love it or leave it has nothing to do with it. This is a forum for the free exchange of ideas and opinions. Some are likely to support the subject and some are likely to not.

The most simplistic argument will continue to be: "If you don't like it, then then don't (whatever...watch it, use it, read it...)" Now, I find that advice to be arrogant and immature, and I would not normally ever use it. Seeing as how it is YOUR OWN advice to others, however, I would turn it back to you, Sir; If you don't like a free exchange of ideas, then don't visit the forums any longer.

Because the same complaint (little new content in TS09, complaining even though it was said there wouldn't be) keeps being repeated and repeated.

Dan

Excellent! Lets those who are unhappy about that particular situation complain until the end of days, if that is what's required. Apparently this is a bone of contention for some purchasers and they have a right to complain about it. Trainz is not a closed club for exclusive members, and as much as I abhor change and new members (as such), you can't excoriate them for not having read all the information before purchasing the product. Auran has been ridiculous with the content issue for years now, counting on third party creations to fill out their game, and then blaming the same for in game problems.

Did I miss it, or was there a pop-up warning when purchasing that informed the consumer there was little new content included in the game?

Congrats to you, veteran and well informed consumer, who knew what they were buying before parting with their money. Some were not as savvy and sophisticated as you, shall we compound their frustration by mocking them now?

Ihe's clueless and blaming his lack to reading, that the rest of us did, on Auran. He's a waste of good air.

Well at least I aimed my compliants at the game... and as much as I was flamed and given the "you should have done your research thing" I never did a personal attack............

I guess you missed the whole point of flybynight's complaint. He was whining that there wasn't more new content in 2009 WBE.
Nope, I didn't miss it, and I wasn't commenting on it.

A few people in this thread bought TS2009 expecting more content in it because they didn't read the bumpf, and they only have themselves to blame.
Thankfully, some people pointed this out to them in a decent manner, but some of the responses were personal and not required (and some from members who've been here long enough to know better).

I mean, is the statement "These functions may be beyond the scope of their capabilities" really necessary?
The same can be asked of your words that flybynight quoted above.

Here's a couple of quotes from this thread, and a question to follow it:

"I was so dis-appointed with the exterme
slow of the Commit process that I stopped after the first one . To top this off the route Clear Lake 2004 SP4 would not operate correctly having the Work Train stop at several places on the switch backs
"

and

"I'm not sure what the problems are, but I've been running 2006 without a glitch for years and now 2009 beats that. Great Job Trainz Team"

Now, which statement of the two is more important, and why?

This thread is a collection of "I'm alright Jack" people, "It's not working correctly, please help me" people, with a sprinkling of "Damn, I should have read the game info" people.

But well done to those who tried to help others without being patronising or belittling.

Ok, lets go for a hypothetical situaution here.

Someone walks into a shop, going to buy a game. They go and find where the game is, pick it up and go and buy it without bothering to find out what's in it, without even looking at anything on the box, they just take it straight to the till and pay for it. They get home, use it and don't like it. Who's fault is that? Is it the people who made the game's fault for not having signs and audible warnings about what's in the gamenext to where it's being sold and as the person buys it, or the consumer's for not having found out what was in the game beforehand?

There was no pop-up, but it was very well documented, along with being on the site. Yes, I usually read about a product before I buy it. If it doesn't come with what is stated, then yes, I will complain, but 2009 was shipped with everything that they said it would. Tony posted here in the forum about the 1 new track and the 1 new loco and a few more new items. No one is being mocked, but he is getting very annoying posting over and over about something that was posted on the site. NO, he was not conned or ripped off. How can he blame Auran, he's THE one who didn't couldn't be bothered to click on a link that was posted right on the page where you order the product. His little act of being a martyr is very annoying.

To me, there is a BIG difference between someone coming to the forum and asking for help solving a problem and someone who comes and just starts complaining. I will do as much as I can if someone actually comes asking for help. I will not tell them to RTM like the kids on another forum. I will give them an answer and if I have time, I will look for an answer for them. As for the ones who just start complaining, they don't stand a chance. Just look at the thread starter in this thread, did he ask for help, no, he just complained.

And saying "He's a waste of good air." helps????

PS.. yes I did say I felt like I was conned, but I was a bit "heated at the time", maybe not conned, but a little miss-led I must say.
Also.. if I was the only one piping up about this subject, I would understand the flames, but it does seem to be a common problem (I did a bit of looking around the trainz-dev forum as well)

So you say you help, we my issue was lack of new 09 objects and no new routes, point me how to find such new content. Say "I am sorry you did not find what you expected, go to the CM and there is a new route named ???? also make sure you serach for the TS09 objects in the CM" something to that effect.

Well, you come asking for help, you will get it. You come with attitude like you did, you'll get attitude in return.

Attitude... maybe a little and agian at the game and at the fustration of some of the replies but did I ever attack anyone? No

And I can take the attitude I got back in responce... but your name calling was way over the line.

i was originally disappointed 09 didnt come with new route content. i do realize, after coming to that conclusion, that i did not read thoroughly.

im not upset over this (bolded to avoid being flamed), i understand new content takes time to develop. i just see how someone can make this mistake as you actually have to dig for this information instead of getting distracted by large orange "click to buy" buttons before stating that there are in fact two distinct versions in relation to content.

Maybe elaborate further on the statement, "More content will be released for download over time.", which is the only really qualifying statement in the Auran store.
