Trainz 2009 FUBAR

I just don't get it...

A product is released.. but yet said product dosn't have a working example of what it can do?????

I am just saying that they should have included at least one route that is using the new objects.. or at least give us a "template" route using the new objects to help us to start building something.

I just don't get it...
Here's the "it."

This specific complaint has come up before.
Over time, the same complaint (not just this one) is going to have the same effect as repeating the same joke.
The joke is funny the first time.
The 10th time, it gets annoying.
By the 20th time, someone is going to want to slap the current joker.
Hit the 25th time, the current joker gets slapped.
And when 30 shows up, that joker gets punched.
It is a normal human reaction for people to get annoyed at the same thing when hearing it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
Rare is the comment/item/whatever that can last long.
This is true in a LOT of places.

Yours and Anthony's comments are having that effect.
I think the meter is at 24th time.

Besides, you have a replace tool in Surveyor.
Pick a route, put the track and the new track in the replace tool, hit a button and WHAMMO, all the track gets replaced.
Do the same with a tree (though not in a winter scene).
And for the texture (though it will look odd to replace something like snow with Gravel With Puddles).
Replace a station manually due to different sizes.
Then save and you have your route with new content.

flybynight, I'm the same as S301 and Storknest. I'm exhausted typing replies to people who just don't want to listen. TRS 2009 cost me forty dollars something Australian currency which equates to about $30 your currency.

The low price was achieved because Auran did not spend any time creating assets or routes. Trainz has become a community thing where Auran concentates on developing a core and the community develops the assets. Nobody can build an asset (or route) without the core, so the core was sold as WBE for a miserable $30 to defray costs. People are out there now building new material as fast as they can and the best of it will be included in the next release. If you can't wait that long, loiter around the DLS and download it as it becomes available. While the community works on creating routes and assets for others to share (even the thankless ones), Auran will work on improving the core so that the next edition will be really be worthwhile.

At no stage were you conned. Auran and countless members of the Forum community have explained the situation until the cows came home. despite this, people like yourself keep popping up out of the woodwork. It reminds me if the Nigerian email scams. No matter how much you warn people, there are always suckers out there willing to part with their money. Well you were warned, so please take it on the chin and say out loud "I didn't do enough research" and give all of us a break.

Well said, well written I will get around to buying my trainz 2009 sometime soon anyway keep up the good work

Woof

you bunch of f...n whiners get a real life

You whine all the time about this and that. Go to Mc donalds and siszler or whatever junkfood store and pay 30 buck for bad food , sit on it and your money is gone down the drain and you probably on the long term get sick of all that junk.
Do you complain to these restaurants???? no simply coz you accept what they tell you to eat and pay lots for it.
Here you buy a new game with lots of potential no catch on what is there or not and running very well to my standards and they are high.
IT is worht the 2 cents or whatever you pay.
If you ask me its to cheap for all the labour and hush afterwards and people still complain come on...
Martinvk said it right. well done
rant over.

have a nice day

Well I do feel like I was conned to be honist, and I wish I would have seen a post like mine before I spent my money.

If you go to the forum, and that is what I did last month out of the blue just being board and I notice up at the top of the fourm it has "Trainz 2009... click to buy" button,

that takes you to this page...

http://www.ts2009.com/news2.php

from there you it takes you here.

http://www.auran.com/auran/info.php?gameid=197

Now maybe if on that page it had a link to the about the world builder page, or it included more of a description of what the WB version really was.

So no I am not going to give it a rest.

OK so you feel conned, I suggest writing it off to experience. $30 is a small price to pay to learn to do your research first. You'll probably make many more expensive mistakes in the future and if it makes you stop think and do a little more research before purchasing to avoid some of those mistakes I'd say it is money well spent. The information about WBE was available to you before purchase.

Realistically routes are available that run under TRS2009 native mode, there are trees now available that look considerably better than the ones that we've seen until now, you just need to switch them in, native mode TRS2009 does have much better frame rates than earlier versions.

Trainz always has been more than put the disk in the machine and buy another payware route, it's more rewarding if you put some effort in yourself.

If I a dime for all the crappy software I have gotten over the years (and will still get in the future I am sure..we do have windows 7 to look forward too :D ).

And I hope someone from Auran will see my post and say "well maybe we do need to give a bit more info on the order page, or at least add a "please review what the WB edition comes with" link on it.

And yes the first thing I did was start to build my own track... and its the lack of new objects plus no new routes that just makes me feel they should have added more.

Well I guess I am lucky that at least I am not getting many errors or other problems I have been reading about.

Other than the SP1 install pains, 09 has been stable for me.

Thanks, at the end of my complaining about no new content, I asked if the new content would be available on DLS. And you say it is so, great stuff.

Content

I ran TS 2006 on my home computer from the time it came out. It always seemed jerky and unreliable, but I had fun with it and made it work.
TS 2009 runs like a dream, smooth as silk, I’ll never go back.
As far as content goes, I wish they would remove most of the content that is built in. It’s a lot of stuff I’ll never use. I can go the DLS and get what I need. Yes, it takes time, but you’re playing a game, you/we/us, must not have anything else to do anyway, so remove the content and let choose my own. I can back it up with out backing up GB of stuff I don’t want. OR put the content on a seprate disk to be loaded as an option.

You say there's no link to the world builder page, on that news page? Whats the down the side then? Spam? Looks like a menu to me... ;)

As for the old built-ins being included. They tried that with TC... No one was happy, since most layouts on the DLS no longer worked, and many locos/rolling stock didn't work either...

Flybynight, as a parting gesture while I sip my morning coffee, I'm sure you've heard the words Caveat Emptor! - Let the Buyer Beware! Simply put, a manufacturer is only obligated to tell you what the product will do, not what it won't do. Auran says Trainz will run high res content and so it will, when it becomes freely available. Think back a bit. Sony announced BlueRay. Their ads were full of acalades for this wonderful new HD standard, but where did they ever say "Provided you watch Diehard because that's the only BlueRay DVD available at present!" here we are, a year down the track and there are still only a few dozen BlueRay titles compared to the thousands of standard DVD's. It all sounds a bit familiar doesn't it?

Despite the lack of BlueRay titles, people are still purchasing BlueRay sets by the thousand. This has a flow on effect. The movie companies can now produce BlueRay discs with the knowledge that potential buyers are out there. The same goes for Trainz. As more people buy the product the demand for assets grows and more people will make them.

Getting back to your bag of sour grapes, reading promotional material is not the place to go looking issues with any product. I recently purchased an Asus NetBook, but had I believed what I read, or what the sales jerk at the computer shop told me, I would have been very disappointed. Instead, I did a Google search for "Asus Netbook complaints". There we a couple, but generally the forum posts were positive, so I went ahead. I love my little toy!

Had you done the same with Trainz on this forum, you would have found several dozen people complaining that the bottle wasn't quite full. There were enough negative responses for you to make a value judgement, but you went ahead anyway and then started complaining.

I've used the following ditty on this forum a dozen times before, but I'm doing it again because I think it's perfect in your case:

"As you wander though your life, whatever be your goal, keep your eye upon the donut, not upon the hole!"

Woah hang in there. Trainz is not fubar, its by far one of the best train simulators out there. Does Kuju Rail Simulator, Microsoft Train Simulator, BVE or Densha de Go support script language? No! They can't make trains do wonderful things like tilt, and you can't add extra nice features to the train without that script. I think you'll find that Kuju Rail Simulator has BY FAR MUCH LESS content that TS2009 alone. And you mentioned the beta had more content than the latest version? If that's true then why don't you just download more content? TS2009 is backwards-compatible with most previous versions of Trainz so I don't see any holes in this..

99.9% of the people knew what they were getting when they purchased TRS2009 WBE. The other .1% were clueless and didn't even bother to click on the link in the menu to get the facts that they needed, or they purchased it anyway, only to spend their time complaining on the forum about how they were conned. Even tho it is explained to them over and over, they continue to show how clueless they really are, by continuing their whining.

If you don't bother to find out about what you're buying, that's your own fault. Don't go whining to others because you made a mistake and want someone else to blame for your own bad decision.

You made the decision, no one forced you to buy it. You didn't bother to read up on what you were purchasing, and as a result aren't happy.
It's nobody's fault but your own, maybe next time you'll pay more attention to what it is you're buying.

Hey I am not the one that started this post and said 2009 was fubar..

I am just saying I wish they had made it more clear-that at the time of release there were really not that many objects yet (and no route using the new objects)

So what do I get... lots of "ohh you didn't read this, and you didn't do your research that"

If I would have seen a post (and yes I did research the forums before I bought!) that was said there were not that many new 09 objects (or a route using them) , then I would have waited to see what was comming down the pipe before I got it.

No, but you're the one that posted that you were conned. It was very well documented what new content was coming in WBE. Just because you are clueless and didn't bother reading up on it, you claim that you were conned. You just keep posting and posting on the subject, showing everyone how really clueless you are. You paid $30 on WBE, which was a bargin, my advice to you would be to suck it up and move on.

attention mods

Now that everyone knows they're right and have said so clearly in many different ways, perhaps it is time for this thread to be put to bed. :o

It may be too much to hope for but I sure hope that other potential future Trainzers find and read these messages before commenting on the quality of their purchase.

Everyone has the right to post their opinion, and not everyone can be expected to research their purchase before they buy it. Trainz is not like other PC games in that it has been releasing the same routes for some time now. I can understand the disappointment some buyers may feel.

Sure, if you don't like a particular aspect of the release, then by all means; visit here and express yourself! It's not an "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" situation; whether you did the research or not!

Auran needs a thump on the head once in awhile when they release items that some aren't happy with. It's not gonna kill 'em, and it just may improve any subsequent releases.

All you staunch supporters...hang in there...maybe Auran will release the version we all know they are capable of someday!
